The restoration of 175G

Back in 2009 I sold my esprit S3. Since then it’s been my dream to one day own an S1. Having watched the prices go stratospheric over the last 10 years I thought I’d missed my opportunity. However, back in February 2024, one came along that I couldn’t refuse. So I am now the proud owner of 175G and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to restoring it, with the help of you fellow esprit owners, especially one in particular.

I am jealous on two fronts - both the S1 and the garage!!

Phase 1 over. 175G is now mainly in boxes or at the platers or powder coasters. A new bulkhead arrived yesterday so it’ll be getting fitted over the weekend

Yep it’ll stay orange, just not the current shade. Already booked in 5 weeks.

Don't forget there is a black strip underneath the bottom of the windscreen right across the car

Yeah they know, I sent them your pics. They’re also correcting the black at the A post, they went too low with it

Yes, should be just the strip, as the rear  side of the door jam. Didn't want to mention it. Also the rear side black comes down at a diagonal angle across the jam from the rear quarterlight window area. Minor point my painter spotted from Paul's photos. Perhaps Paul could post it, as I've ran out of photo poster ability due to being a TNG (Tight Northern Git).

The original engine wasn’t in the car. Think it was pulled due to a cracked liner. The one in the car was from an Eclat.

As for the chassis, it was pretty much toast

I couldn’t find a datum. The whole front cross member was bent and the shear panel buckled. So after a visit to Matt Oxley I ended up with this.
