Passed this today - the Fire station is where the lamppost is - so had to be the fastest response in history!

They were a wee bit different when I used to watch them as a kid at the South Weymouth MA NAS in the early '60s    :P

(The air station was only a few miles from my childhood home and had a huge blimp hangar...all gone now)

From reading this account it appears one better drive a distance and release at night or they'll be back (orange paint on tail to track)

Or better still in the UK if you catch a grey squirrel I believe it's an offence to release it back in to the wild, it has to be killed humanely.

Interesting. I honestly don't know what the rules are around here (living in the village and not out in the farmland of the township). While my wife doesn't really like the doings of tree rats, I know she being being a lover of all animals wouldn't like it if I did like some people and drop 'em with a pellet gun (once again, I don't even know what is legal). What I do know is I'm seeing a huge amount of squirrel nests in the trees when taking local walks, now that the leaves have fallen off the trees. Deer are also prolific in what was once all nearby farmland, but now is new housing developments. Some people have put out salt licks, which only encourages them to come around here and my wife is no fan of those people having had a deer come full speed from outside her peripheral vision and right in front of her car, totaling it, with no chance to react. They have increased "deer kill" weekends for hunters in locations away from houses because of this overpopulation problem. (they do a real mean number on "shrubbery" in winter too, because of the lack of food)

It's illegal to release any non-native animal, so wildlife rescue centres have problems if they treat certain creatures, as the animals cannot be released once recovered, despite having been wild before the incident that caused them to need help.
