Essex Random Images.......

Steve there may be a way to do it. I often use carbaba.co.uk to search cars by registration number. One of the data fields it throws up is engine number. Therefore there must be a way to search cars by engine number. For instance if I put in 600KW, Essex #014, it gives me an engine number of CD910800918374 which is correct. Same for Essex #016, it returns engine number CD910800918712 which is correct for a car last registered in the UK in 1992.

Steve

There is/was somebody searching for the Esprit that went off the road in 1982 on Pistonheads. He thought that it might have been 020 which, as we both know, was broken for parts by two companies.

How about a website for Essex Esprits?

Barrie,

Think I have a name for Neutral 3. 😎

Never thought about having an Essex website, needs a bit of thinking about that, would you be up for volunteering as administrator ?

Something along these lines. Had already started building it to go along with my "JPS" site http://www.jpsesprit.com

020 first went to Douglas Valley and finished up at Lotus Bits, someone was trying very hard to resurrect it at the time.
The VanSten connection needs investigation, was it another Essex, for example 015 ?
Vansten must have a connection to the Vansten I knew many years ago, he was very ill with cancer at the time, use to come over to Donnington & Stonely every year, have I got the right Vansten ?

Roo, Thanks for that a job for tomorrow.

almost right, its the guy who started Vansten engineering (his name was Maarten) he died on young age by cancer...

he started up the company with 2 other guys, and one of them had a Essex Esprit (i know him very well) but he dont know the number anymore,

when the company was given or sold (i dont know) to one of his people who work for maarten at the time,

that guy sold all the parts that they had in stock (old parts) and also the essex from my friend in parts because the parts from the car where also on the upper floor so they sold it all to Lotus bits, its a real shame!

Bauke,

Was it Peter Delfgaauw who owned the Essex ?

Peter Delfgaauw was asked by Maartens family to take over running the business, is he still involved with Vansten ?

Can and ask Peter or your friend if it's not Peter how the Essex finished up in bits, or was it in bits when he bought it ?

Presuming we are talking about a complete r/h drive Essex ?

All the numbered R/H production Essex's are accounted for, 003 to 024(100) with the exception of 015 & 019.

it was a RHD car, and yess peter delfgaauw still owns the company,

ofcourse did i ask my friend / mate about the number on the Essex, but he dont know anymore,

must be 015 or 019 ...  parts are sold by peter to lotus bits, and i think the wheels are sold to the guy who made 2 early esprits with compomotive wheels,

the black / gold car that i had, and a copper fire one, and the wheels from my black gold one, must be the old wheels from 015 or 020

i bought the wheels back, so i will use them under a LHD esprit Turbo that i will remake as a early Esprit in copper fire colour (its a 1986 model now)

Think we've discussed before Steve - 015 was the Hew Dundas' car. I think you reached out to him but he never kept track of what B&C did with it...................

Hi Neil,

Hew Dundas, Bell & Colvill, Vansten and an accident involving an Essex on the Ridgeway (B552), 020 at Lotus Bits being confused with the Hew Dundas Essex & DVLA data protection won't release any history for HRD 7, feel free to have a go at piecing all that lot together !!!!

  • 4 weeks later...

The scavenge pump failed Lex seizing the engine at near top end speeds, one of the crew had to remain with the car when everyone left and await a recovery truck from the U.K.

The engine was ruined so yes totally agree that must of been the V8 development car there after.

Check out the first 5 seconds of this clip and see if anyone can guess the number? 😂

Dave :)

Do or do not, there is no try!
