Trip to France - battle of the Somme

Whilst playing with my car the other day over at sparky's with Internets we discussed the possibility of getting out more often in the esprits. Beltfests, engine rebuilds and freescan weekends have bought a core of esprit owners together for a bit of fun over the past few years, however, ownership of this iconic car is more about driving, visiting places etc. so we need a HOON or visit to look forward to........

France, around the Somme area, was the suggestion. Leave early Saturday morning returning Sunday night. We could visit the trenches and other places of interest as it will be the centenary of ww1 next year, it will be too busy then so best go this year.

It would be nice to have a good number of cars attending, we thought that a date mid September would be good, it's not intended as a race, fast HOON etc but a good drive through France with spouses and or partners to visit and remember those who gave their lives during WW1 and WW2.

So who would be interested in a weekend away in September

I envy you the ability to do this.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Dave, this is a fantastic trip!  I did a tour with the Belgium Lotus club out of Ypres and I had a brilliant time!!  I meet up with some great people there and it was well organized.  The scenery going around the county roads with a hundred Lotus cars was fantastic!  The local people loved seeing all the cars drive by.

The Somme’s is also a beautiful area for a great drive through the country side and like you said a chance to see the battle fields

If I was still over in the UK  Dave, I would be with you in a heart beat, mate.

Cheers

Felix

Hi Felix, why not come over, you could stay with us for a few days before and return a couple of day after, for sure we could fit in some other fun days, now you are retired there should be no problem.

Trevor, great to have you come along mate

Chris, I will get dates set up ASAP so that you can pan around them.

I should be in Masstricht to attend the Belgium GP at end of August. So could meet up around the Somme the following weekend. Couldn't make it at any later date in September though.

Um...don't know. I'm coming over from oz and won't have my Lotus with me, just a pug. And hoping to get there in time for the GP after the masters games at Turin and then a "little bit" of a drive around eastern europe. That's the plan but it's all fluid except for Turin where the games are.

Went last year by Mog, can recommend Auberge d' Inxent, only 5 rooms but big offroad parking and good restaurant

I'm on Hols for part of September, so would depend on dates

Just come back from a week in northern France with the Lotus (and the wife), great driving, great roads, saw 2 Elise's, a couple of 7's,  in a historic car show in Caen.

If the timings were good with work, I would go.

I have CDO, it's like OCD but all the letters are in alphabetical order, AS THEY SHOULD BE !

Ok, looks like I need to set a date for this, best way I think is to put up several options and see who can make what date.

Paul, will speak at weekend, looking forward to seeing you again, Megan will advise arrival and how long I am allowed to stay.
