What's distinct about the "Dutch coastal gin" compared to others? 

For example,  London Dry = very dry,  Plymouth = moderately dry, Old tom = mild dry, Jenever = not dry, almost sweet.

Hortus Old Tom from Lidl is very palatable. Not up there with the best but at £15 a bottle it's good quaffing gin.

Do you mean "Gin Lane 1751 old Tom"? I think that Hortus is used as a brand for their dry gin.

Pretty sure it's branded Hortus. Don't have the bottle here as I'm not at home. Don't much care either. It's a decent old tom for £15. Call it Mr. Tiddles and I'd still buy it.

Doh, I was thinking of Aldi win Gin Lane, although I've not found Old Tom in either of them at the times I've looked.

The culmination of many weeks of research and rigorous testing, the ‘Spirits 4 Shan’ limited edition gin is now available. Granted, it looks like a piss sample, but get the wife to neck a couple of shots, and you’ll be surprised at the transformation. Chocks away, Ginger!
