Failed it's MOT in March for the black number plates

"A IDEAL INVESTMANT AND FUN TO BOOT"

Not sure how they know it's fun as it has only driven 1 mile over the last 8 years.

A few more photos here

The car has to be a historic vehicle (40 years old) for the black number plates to be OK

Here's the fail

Test date 30 March 2016

  • Test Result Fail
  • Odometer reading 86,069 miles
  • MOT test number 5416 8887 6643
  • Reason(s) for failure
Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)
registration plate fitted to the front does not have black characters on a white background (6.3.2a)
registration plate fitted to the rear does not have black characters on a yellow background (6.3.2b)
    nearside passengers seat insecure (6.2.A.1)

  • Gold FFM

I'm mistaken then - I always thought it was prior to old a Reg and you could use black plates....

nice to see these cars being snapped up by flippers though - shows a growing market for them

Only here once

My biggest problem with it is that has not been used over the past 8 years, and possibly for longer. The MOT History web site is here

  • Mileage in Feb 2008:86069
  • Mileage in Mar 2016: 86070

Our cars need to be used. If I was going to buy this, it would be straight off to be fully checked over, belts and fluids changed etc.

The advert doesn't say very much at all anything about the car.

THIS IS A VERY RARE VEHICLE .
A 1982 LOTUS ESPRIT
PLATE THAT READS FLASHY !!!! STAYS WITH THE VEHICLE
THIS LOTUS HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE OVER THE YEARS AND IS ONE OF THE BEST YOU WILL FIND .
A VERY RARE AND STRIKING VEHICLE
THESE ARE GOING UP IN VALUE DAILY AND STILL REPRESENTING GREAT VALUE
A IDEAL INVESTMANT AND FUN TO BOOT
THIS VEHICLE HAS A 2 INCH THICK HISTORY FILE INCLUDING A FULL ENGINE REBUILD AT A LOTUS SPECIALIST A FULL REPAINT AND MUCH MORE
A FANTASTIC VEHICLE THAT WILL IMPRESS ANYONE THAT COMES AND TAKES A LOOK

Alloy Wheels, CD Player, Electric Mirrors, Front Electric Windows, Front Fog Lights, Radio/CD,

no photos of the engine bay

With all the above, I think £19k is too high. Although if it sells for that, my 82 car must be worth almost double :)

A number of things don't look quite 'right'

Rear bumper looks like it's been fitted wrong - it's too low and they've painted black along the back to try to mask where the bumper should sit. Badges on the front wing missing. Handbrake cover looks shot, fuel lines look like originals are fitted/been refitted? why would you do that? Wiper arm non-original? certainly the blade is.

I could go on and maybe I'm nit picking but I always wonder about the quality of the respray and what's hiding underneath/what will come through 6 months after purchase. Price is subjective but any potential purchaser should at least know what they're buying
