Bucket Lists

(Probably prompted by Bib's exploits this week) ?

 

Anyone made one/done one? 

Anyone got one that are making their way through? 

What would be on your 'to dos' 'must dos' 'must see' 'must go to' 'must visit' 'must try' list?

A relitive of mine 2 years ago made one upon the news of a illness and was able to complete a large number of them before he passed.

I've now a '20' that I would like to complete within a 5-10 year period. ?

I had a  mid life crisis when I hit 30.  Job going nowhere, harassed at work, very bored.  I took 3 months off work and created my so called bucket list with just 3 things to tick off before I hit retirement age.  I had been in the military for 15 years, I actually joined the Airforce to work on planes, but I never actually once worked on one.

So the 3 items in my bucket list were: 1. Become a professional and wear a suit (not a uniform), travel the world and fix problems on aircraft. 2. Climb the Pyramids with my father. 3. Buy a fast red exotic sports car that cost more than a house.  Since I lived in Australia, I gave myself 30 years to accomplish these 3 epic tasks, as Egypt's a long long way from Oz and I couldn't afford to even buy a house at the time.

Anyway as luck would have it, 3 months after creating my list I was offered an engineering job in London with a major US Defence firm.  Moved the family to the other side of the world. and within 5 years of creating the list I had worked in over 20 countries (pretty much worked on every type of Airbus and Boeing aircraft), travelled to Cairo with my father and climbed the Pyramids, and bought my Esprit. Back in 94 a house in my area was AU$40k and the Esprit went on sale in Oz for AU$200+k, so the car was actually worth 5 houses.

So I ticked all my life boxes by my mid 30's.  Nothing more much to do now other than retire and live the so called good life on the beach in Oz.

So yes, creating a serious, seemingly unreachable bucket list was well worth it.

Here's mine so far, I keep adding to it!

• Drive the whole of Route 66 on a Harley
• Go to the Maldives and spend 2 weeks doing absolutely nothing.
• Take Wendy to all my old haunts in the Far East
• Buy an Evora
• Have Dinner with Jenson Button. A true gent!
• Drive across Europe with my kids visiting every country (I did this with my dad when I was 12)
• Buy the large fallow field behind my house and turn it into a bird sanctuary. With guard dogs that kill any and all of the local cats!
• On that point, develop a virile strain of cat flu that instantly kills any cat that goes outside forcing idiot cat owners to stop them destroying the 700 million small birds and mammals they are killing in the UK every year!...........actually, just kill every cat, thats easier!
• get my wife the recognition her art deserves, maybe on Sky Arts Landscape artist of the year!

As I said it is evolving as I think of things I really want to do!

15. Do Oktoberfest in Munich.
16. See an iceberg.
17. Own a pair of Thom Browne shorts.
18. Get both daughters their cars - 1 down 1 to go.
19. Get to 1000 Test Passes. (706 to date)
20. A no time limit European road trip including Alps.

Edit: Ok I'll give it a go, in this order...

1. Build my cars

2. Build my house

3. Buy a sail boat and live on the sea instead

[and somewhere along the way meet the person who will make it all worthwhile]

 

PS Ian I've done the no time limit Euro GT twice. First one lasted about 5 weeks, the second over 3 months! Make it happen!

5. It'll happen, hopefully over next 1 year.

10. They seem to be getting more games over here each year but tickets harder and harder to get unless spending tout prices. Was on hold for over an hour 6 weeks ago when they went on sale for next NFL season. Still failed to get them ?

10. I am a double season ticket holder at Spurs and will have priority booking for NFL games when the new stadium opens with the retractable NFL pitch. Looking forward to watching an NFL game, especially with someone who can tell me what the hell is going on!

It's my normal Sunday night activity for the four month NFL season. 6pm Sunday night, feet up, roast dinner, a beer or 3 and 2 back to back NFL games - no wife/no kids. Heaven ?

Done these @mayesprit Monaco with ACBC and Dad also did Monza that year. Oktoberfest was....really messy! Driving over Mont Blanc in a Range Rover with the old man, mom and brother as part of an amazing once in a lifetime trip was amazing. Did every Country (Even Luxembourg, though if you blink you miss it!) stayed one night in the Gstaad Palace. Didn't realise what a treat that was at the time.
