I looked at theTampa Bay YT videos etc and I just do not understand why you would walk in the area?

If a storm surge where to start coming in, at the speed some of them move, you could get caught and be in serious trouble.

A big palm debris landed on top of the Esprit and survived...not a scratch.

We lost power about an hour ago but just moderate wind and rain so far.

The eye of the storm passed through where we were staying in Cape Coral. Winds were gusting at 140mph, and when I went outside in the morning, I saw there would have been a high chance of being speared by bottle-palm fronds that had come down. Seriously,  you would have taken your life in your hands, these things had chisel-points, up to 15' long, and had impacted into the ground 6-10". Down from us, the sea walls on three properties had collapsed into the canal, the lanai on our place, and almost every other, sustained damage.

There is still no power in the majority of the Cape, and we've now moved back in to our original villa because power there has been restored, as 90F temperature even at night is not conducive to sleeping, especially with the humidity, in fact it's impossible. I've just slept for nearly 12 hours straight once we got back in to the cool environment.

With no power, most shops, businesses and restaurants are mostly closed, with a few opening today. If you need petrol, then you have to be prepared to queue for two hours, and some roads are still blocked by fallen trees round here.

Thanfully, the flooding was nowhere near as bad as predicted in the area, and we when returned to the villa on Monday after the storm to see what damage had been done, I took this photo, which shows the water level about 3 feet above normal. I'd post videos, but the files are too big.

And this morning, as the photo shows, I t's all back to normal, aside from we daren't use the boat because of the risk of damaging by hitting debris in the river, and as of last night, a lot of Fort Myers Beach and the surrounding area here was still without power. Those guys will be dying in this heat, that's five days without power and the temperature doesn't really drop much at night, either.

We're lounging around sunbathing and pool dipping for the remaining days, so the usual story for us, but it's certainly been an interesting experience.
