This is just my opportunity to vent a bit over a real First World problem for which I have noone to blame but myself. Went out this morning for the second of my twice-weekly hockey games. All went well until I had to really hustle back to cover on defence, got my skates tangled up, took a fall and bounced my fool head on the ice. Even with a helmet on, four inches of ice on a concrete base is an unforgiving surface to smack one's head on so I now have some concussion symptoms. That is bad enough but I did the same thing in January so two concussions (albeit mild) in a little over two months is something to think about. And I know that I won't get far in this world if I have to rely on my looks or athletic prowess. My plan has been to keep playing where I am for a couple of more years until I hit 70 and then evaluate whether to quit playing or look for a slower league to play in. Now I'm pissed that I might have put myself in that situation ahead of schedule. Like I said, just venting.

Restoration of seized or frozen assets would be nice, but I suspect that throwing in immunity from prosecution would seal the deal if it comes to that point.

My inner 14 year-old, who often comes up with amusing ideas that are totally lacking in common sense or judgement, has a thought about these cameras. What you should do is find a spot to park a noisy Evora (or similar) near the microphone. Keep the car idling and bring it up to full throttle whenever a Tesla drives by the camera. That will give some interesting statistics.

Starting? 😜 I think the issue is more that the rest of us are trying to figure out how someone with the apparent common sense of a sea urchin could manage to paddle a kayak in the first place. Or is it possible that he tried to start a fire onboard to keep warm and discovered the truth in the old adage that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

White Rock, where I live, is not a village. But I can think of a few local residents who, by continuing to live here, are depriving some real village of a perfectly serviceable idiot.

The 340R was not certified for road use in Canada although it can be brought into the country now. Our equivalent of the US rule is more liberal as cars can be freely imported once they are 15 years old. After that it is a matter of getting the car compliant with provincial requirements to pass an inspection in order to be approved for road use. So it should be possible to bring a 340R in now. Having said that, I am aware that Bell & Covill has a 340R listed for sale now. It looks good on the website and the price is quite reasonable by the standards of the current market in Canada. When concerted to CDN$ the price is not much more than what a couple of Vancouver dealers have listed Elise for in the past few months. Transport, duties and taxes would probably increase the landed cost by 30% or so but still within the realm of reasonable. The problem I have with it is the hidden cost - if another Lotus follows me home now I really should factor in the cost of the divorce.

@jep, I forgot to add that if I somehow managed to get my hands on a 340R, and there are damn few if any of them in Canada, I'd hang to it until it becomes a contested item under my will. Even if I wasn't the first owner. Drive that car!

Two owned from new, one Lotus one other (and I'm not counting our daily appliance Volvo 60. Even though it is a very good appliance). Elise purchased new in 2010, had the dealer add the factory supercharger. Now about 88,000 km. Also a 1987 Merkur XR4Ti bought new in 1988. Was the daily driver for years, now my wife's car. About 285,000 km on it.

A few years ago, while visiting friends and family in Scotland, I met a fellow in a pub. His main claim to fame was that he had once punched Tony Blair, although it soon became apparent that they were both 11 or 12 years old when that happened. I bought him a beer anyway.

We haven't had cats since the last two died (one of them in rather tragic circumstances) back in 2010. However, when our daughter came to stay for a couple of days over Christmas she brought along her rather cantankerous 16 year old calico. I'm increasingly concerned that the beast quite likes her new hotel.

I certainly agree with that objective, but not necessarily the method of achieving it. There can be some circumstances when you need to slow someone down if they are oblivious to a specific hazard but I have often seen other drivers take foolish and reckless risks to get around slower traffic. Just this past weekend I was on a road trip through BC and saw at least three instances of impatient twits making extremely risky passes to get by other vehicles that weren't going fast enough to suit them. Two of the instances were people wanting to drive too fast for the conditions but the third was triggered by someone who was going slowly and doggedly refusing to let anyone past. Luckily, none of these episodes ended in disaster either through sheer dumb luck or good judgement by oncoming drivers It seems that we have significantly different opinions on reacting to faster traffic.

I don't see how that helps. Ok, the Audi is being a knucklehead and tailgating you - so let them by and keep an eye out to avoid their debris field instead of holding them up and perhaps triggering real road rage

Am I reading this correctly? Are you actually lauding the self-entitled priggishness of intentionally impeding someone simply because you disapprove of their driving habits or choice of vehicle? Unbelievable.

You are not alone - I have seen the same thing here, north of the 49th parallel. And I agree that it is most often a Dodge, followed by BMW - usually an older 3 series with go-fast body kit - or a clapped out Honda Civic with a fart can exhaust. They're a minority of drivers, even among those makes, but for some people out there the sight of a Lotus triggers a need to pass it even if it kills them. And it might do that. My experience is that for virtually all of these spaz drivers a reasonable description of their driving skill is that they couldn't find their own ass if they used both hands and a hunting dog.

I don't know how much the technology, or more accurately the chemistry, of this process may have changed in the 24 years since my car was done but it may require thorough preparation and quick work in applying the primer coat. Back in the day the primer/sealant used a two-part epoxy mixture. I recall a conversation with the fellow who did the work indicating that he had to be absolutely ready to go and then spray the car quickly because if the epoxy started to set before he could get his spray-gun cleaned out it would turn into a rather expensive paperweight. I don't know if that is still the case but something to keep in mind.
