  1. Apologies if this has been covered before. (although I couldn't see anything on the forums) Ive come across an article on an Esprit S1 in a comic called Battle from the 1970's. Ive also come across a picture featuring an Elite on the front page of a Roy of the Rovers comic. Does anyone know of more, or can add any from other comics. Cheers.
  2. I may be able to help with your LH filler neck. Trouble is Im in the UK. Let me know if you don't get fixed up in Canada. Regards. Lez
  3. So it finally made it! Aston Martin 1970s supercar breaks 200mph barrier - BBC News
  4. So, Finally fund out what the cause of the hesitancy is! After checking the carb float chambers for contaminated petrol, checked the floats, cleaned the jets three times, checked the distributor, electronic ignition, fuel pump, coil, changed the plugs, checked the leads ------ and all was well! ----- I went into the garage on Friday and noticed the nearside rear wheel looked slightly on an angle. Jacked the rear end up and found the UJ's were knackered!! In 30+ years of Eclat ownership, using the car as my everyday runner, (I only had the Eclat), I can always tell when the UJ's are on their way out because you can hear a rumbling sound. On the Esprit - not a whisper. Because the UJ's (on the Eclat) go down on a regular basis, I always keep a supply in. Ive now changed both UJ's on the nearside and voila- no hesitancy. Happy day. Ive checked the offside and although not as bad, Im going to change them as well. Thanks to everyone who came up with suggestions. They were all appreciated.
  5. Hi Guys, Many thanks for your thoughts. @Fridge. Yes Misfires at low revs. No problem when accelerating hard and motorway driving. @LOTUSMAN33 Pump was fitted when I bought the car. Looked new. The PO had spent a fortune getting the car running. Fuel tanks have been replace with aluminium new ones. I'm running twin 45's.(which were fitted when I bought the car) Dont think it can be the size of the jets because it has been running great for the last couple of years. (I do take it out regularly)Thinking back, when I had a look at the jets, the idle jets were a bit wet but one of the main jets looked dry. Perhaps I should take them out again and give them another thorough clean (although I thought I had done that already) what would you recommend? Brake cleaner? I will report back after the holiday. Thanks again for your input.
  6. Well another fruitless afternoon of my life gone courtesy of my Lotus! Unfortunately everything looked good. (except the spark plugs which I cleaned up and reset the gap) Distributor looks fine, as did everything else. Took it out for a run after, and its just as it was. No difference at all. I cannot do anything else for a bit as besides finishing off the cake, I am suppose to be packing for a weeks break in Tenerife. I'll puzzle over it when Im sat on a beach doing nothing!
  7. Hi @drdoom and @Fridge. The Esprit has had to take a back seat this morning. Im making a birthday cake for my granddaughter! Thanks again for all the input. This afternoon (time allowing) I am going to check the plugs, check the distributor, check the fuel pump etc etc Hopefully something will be amiss, otherwise its scratching head time again!
  8. Thanks for the input guys. It has 45 Del'lortos. I only put E5 in it. It has been run regularly through the winter. I have Accuspark electronic ignition. I have use the same on my Eclat for years with no problem, but it is worth checking to eradicate it from list. I will check the spark plugs as well but seeing as the car runs great above 50 or during hard acceleration cant see it being that. But again no problem with checking to make sure. It is a weird one that's for sure. Thanks again for your pointers.
  9. Wow, I haven't posted anything since last year!! Well this year I need help again. Took the Esprit for a run over to Leeds last week. It ran fine and it was a lovely day. However jumped into it yesterday for a run and it is very hesitant on low revs. Its happy at speeds over 50 with no problems. 70 or 80 likewise. If I accelerate hard (away from the traffic lights for example) there's no problem. But if Im just trundling along at 30 -40 its like kangaroo petrol !! (if you know what I mean!) [not as bad but you get the idea!] Ive checked the jets - they were all fine, but I gave them a blow with the airline anyway. Checked the float chambers for contaminates - they were fine. Cleaned the filters so they are nice and clean. But still have the same problem. What else can I try? Any ideas?
  10. Mine were the same. (very common problem apparently) I had a go at GENTLY heating them by using a hair dryer and being VERY careful! I protected the dial by some strategically place cardboard. It worked a treat. Back to original. Nothing added! I did this in 2019 and its still working ok now.
  11. I found this on facebook. A guy does them up as a hobby. I sent it to Australia for my grandsons to enjoy. It was originally a 1960's Triang pedal car.(last photo)
  12. So Ive finally got the 'set' of photos from the photo shoot. Must say, I was bandied about from the photographer to the contact from the mag that I was dealing with to get them. The shoot took place in December! Although I had volunteered the use of my car, and was happy on the day and found it very interesting, I cannot say Im impressed with the portfolio of photos. This comprised of the 8 photos that were printed in the magazine. Of which only 5 are really of the car/interior. When I asked if I could have more from the hundreds that were taken I was just fobbed off. I also had to promise not to post them on social media (they class The Lotus Forums as such. So cannot even show you on here, although @LOTUSMAN33 did a good job of posting a couple from the mag) Good job I took some of my own photos which I have already posted. So if your approached by a car magazine to use your car, make sure you know what you are going to get out of it, if anything.
  13. Hi Pete Ive got 1 if thats any good. I cannot remember if its drivers or passengers.
  14. Ive been having a clear out of my office and came across a load of old invoices, MOT certificates etc for my old Eclat GWE 999V. I see it is currently on a SORN. If the current owner is on here I'm happy to send on the info.
  15. Yes. Really sad news but as @ramjet said doing what he loved doing. I really loved his gymkhana videos. RIP Ken.
  16. Was out in the Esprit a couple of days ago. The Eclat will get her turn shortly. I don't own pristine, ground up restorations or garage queens that don't go anywhere. ( but each to his/her own. I appreciate we are all different) My cars are for driving and enjoying and always have been. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. I added this gif because it reminded me of the TV series The Prisoner starring Patrick Magoohan and his Lotus 7. ( true fans will get it!!) MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
  17. Thanks Dave. I havent even seen the article yet! I'll get a copy tomorrow. It was an interesting day, seeing how it was done. They said they are going to send me a portfolio of the photos after the article has been printed so Im looking forward to that. They took loads. From what I could hear, the guy seems very impressed with the car. I asked him if he wasn't disappointed in 'meeting' his hero and he said definitely not. The weather had been atrocious for the three days before and then the three days after. So we were lucky the weather was dry on the day of the shoot. The photographer took a photo of myself and the guy who said the S1 was his dream car. A good day out.
  18. Here's a few photos I took on the photo shoot for Classic Car Magazine on Tuesday.(22nd Nov) We were sooooooo lucky with the weather. It was terrible all last week up to the Tues, Then a sunny day for the shoot with a few dark clouds rolling in after we had finished. Since then it has rained every day. It was interesting seeing what goes on. Ive never been on one before. The photographer took his life in his hands sometimes with him hanging out the rear window of the support car to get (hopefully) some great shots of the car in motion. I have been promised a batch of photos from the shoot after the magazine comes out. Around Christmas probably.
  19. Up to a couple of years ago, my Eclat was my daily driver for 30+ years!
  20. I could possibly help with my Esprit S1, although living 'oop North' (Lancashire), it may be too far.
  21. Im with everyone else. You have put so much effort into it. . Just take a break. Like @EXCEL V8 says, just put it under cover and start again in the spring. I have enjoyed your posts. Store it until Spring anyway. If you still feel the same about it then - well get rid of it then. You will probably get a better price in the spring anyway. Have a think.
  22. I have a spare if you havent got fixed up. Can send photos if your interested. PM me if you like. Cheers.
