I'm on Holiday for two weeks, so time to get to grips with the engine; Stripping the old this afternoon. 

A few surprises, but nothing too dramatic.  I'll get to see the state of the BE shells and crank tomorrow.

BE not bad considering the additional power.  Mains okay - crank just need a journal polish and will be ready for another stock engine sometime.

Time now for inspection and clean-up....

Calipers back from refurbishment - back to bare castings and clear-coated.

More Ex-GT parts for the engine: Doug Kiddie crank (needs re-work), motorsport cam covers and Pankl rod to act as a model for remanufacture.

The crankpins are significantly bigger than stock, although the mains are the same.

On the topic of bespoke lotus V8 engines,  i remember years ago a fellow had a webpage of a lotus v8 project  it was a black G  turbo,  but he had built a custom lotus V8 engine for it, and had also planned to use the lotus V8 chassis,   That engine also looked stunning,  I think he sold the car but not sure what he did with the engine and chassis ?

No it was not Mikes,     The guy called it proiect lotus v8 m71 esprit,   i have just seen it on the web but cant post links,  it may of been dark green from the pics,  but the engine he built was lovely,  Like one of Mike S engines with custom headers and intakes on a lotus 918 engine

The project still lives on - I know who built that engine and what is contains.  It's got forged pistons and the motorsport plenums, but the rest of the engine is stock.

  I thought the guy has sold it,  as the picture of the car been towed away I presumed he had sold it ,  chap was struggling for workspace and put it into storage ,  glad he has found a workshop to allow him to continue his dream build

Progress has been really limited by the fact that I'm up to my eyes in engine rebuilds for other people.

Current status:

- interior is removed as I will replace with a lightweight material from Steve

- moulds for the arches are in preparation for visible cf parts (update coming early next year)

- XShift transmission on hold pending funding (it's 20K€ of invest)

- Damaged Ex-GT1 crank is being checked for possible re-work.  Would also result in the need for custom rods

- Heads are still to be sent away for CNC porting

- Plenums are in fabrication

- Exhaust manifolds also in fabrication

The engine is most likely not going to be built until we are well into next year.

The clutch is an AP6913-OH03-FN

It's got a huge torque capacity and was selected as I plan for a sequential straight-cut dog transmission, with clutch-less changes once moving.

The current crisis has afforded the chance to work on my own car.  I've been wanting to get the body off for a while to check/renovate, so here goes.

The only real pain with chassis fixings was the pedal box to chassis, where one of the rear allen bolt fixings was particularly tricky to get to.  Needed to adapt a key to get the correct orientation to crack off the torque.

Once all fixings were clear, progressing raising as we don't have a lift installed.

All fluid pipes and hydraulics removed

Good use of Sunday, with the help of son Jason.   Front and rear suspension plus steering rack removed.  We are now bare and ready for chassis prep.

That absolutely joyous moment when you realise that your lower link studs are not seized.

Plenty of parts to get serviced and renovated.

I was very fortunate.   The only cutting necessary was to shorten the length of the top ball joint thread, as I only had a short version if the 11/16 socket.  Everything else was a doddle.  Even the ABS sensors came out of the hubs by hand.
