Not having to pay for no deal would not be attractive for either side, but would put quite some pressure on the EU if we chose to walk, as a result of their threats, beligerance and behaviours.

EU have way more to lose than we have - hence they are making the fuss. Only the pro-EU remoaners are still maintaining that we shouldn't leave.

The HoLs have really demonstrated how useless and out of touch they are. The Conservatives MUST keep UK based EU residents as a bargaining chip, simply to ensure the rights of UK citizens abroad. There is nothing to argue about!

I'm sick of it and I'm sick of that whinging little sniffling politician Sturgeon who could not even get a majority government yet insists she speaks for the whole of Scotland. Aye right.. I blame the English who all raved about her TV debate performances - look what you did!......

just a word about money. (in english not so easy - and this forum is public - two bad things for me )

the good way :

1) think about a society (human) project 2) build the economic system to make it real 3) use the money as a tool (yes the money is just a tool) to run your economic project 

 

what we have done :

1) build a money 2) ask to country's specific economy to adapt 3) ask to people to adapt to the economic model

 

my vision of europe is not just a question of "money" :

I drive a f*** good english car (built by english people, and  I am proud of that - and I know our common history) and I drive my car on f*** good french roads/tracks and I share this passion with guys coming from all europe countries. it's simple and real. not just a question of trade, market, share, debt, unique/common money...

Indeed and this was the case before the EU existed and will still be the case after the UK leaves. Friendships and travel throughout Europe/UK will not change. If anything the EU has actually caused more divisions within Europe than unity.

@geartox your English is way better than my French. Don't worry about it and bravo!  My ramblings that follow are not an attack on the French - it is the machine that is the EU that I truly hate and despise, not the people of the Europe. My ramblings do however shed a damning light on some of the protectionist and bad behaviour of successive French Governments and the French ruling elite against the UK over a nearly 50 year period! 

I do hope you guys in France manage to have a peaceful revolution this year with your elections. Your ruling elite is so out of touch with the real people of France - a country that I love to visit and I count many French people as close and good personal friends.

The aims of the European Common Market, back in the 1960's and 70's were laudable and are to be applauded. However, like with most things, eventually the greedy fat bastards with their pig snouts in the trough rise to the top of the organisation. And so this is what happened in Europe and we then had the Euro currency (with large fat bureaucracies for the family and friends of the greedy fat bastards to share in the delights of the trough ). Then we had the Commission, yet more bureaucracy and jobs for the families and friends of failed politicians and the political elite across Europe. Then the Court of Human Rights, with more jobs and so on and so forth.. Pretty soon the EU "project" was just out of control and was feeding a bunch of lazy fat bastards who no longer had to put their pigs snouts in the trough as the normal common people of Europe were made to hand feed them, so they got more fat for even less effort!

How was it back in the 1980's when the UK was the 3rd poorest member of the then common market, we were the largest net contributor?  How was that just and why did the people of Europe not want to do anything about it?  You can milk a cow for only so long before eventually it dies and many in the EU seemed to treat the UK as a big cash cow to be milked to death. Maggie Thatcher did something about it and she got the rebate that the rest of Europe hated her for getting by threatening to stop all UK payments, end of. If there had been some sense and fair treatment right then, Brexit would never have happened and rather than people blaming the UK for it, I really do think the institutions of the EU, and the leaders of the European countries, should take a good long hard look at themselves.  

Have you ever wondered why so many large UK companies (for instance, our major energy and water utilities amongst others) were bought by French, German and Spanish companies whereby we, in the UK, were never allowed to buy the same companies in France, Germany or Spain?  Even though we had the EU, with all the rules around state aid and open and fair competition, it was by large the UK who played by the rules, opened her markets and allowed her companies to be taken over, one by one, by companies like EDF in France who were fiercely protected by the French government and given (not so) secret state aid and benefits to enable them to expand outside of France whilst their home market was kept safe and protected. The exact same thing happened with GDF Suez, with Iberdrola in Spain, with RWE and E.ON in Germany.  

Was that and is that the correct behaviour within a common market?  

The UK has had a poor deal for decades out of the EU and my only regret is that back in the 1980's Thatcher did not pull us all the way out back then.  Half of Europe never wanted us in the common market - the French Government and DeGaulle in particular lied and betrayed us three times to stop us getting in in the first place. And the bureaucrats in the EU wonder why the UK voted to leave? Shows just how far out of touch they really were and are.

I am in Goa on holiday right now. I had not realised it was under Portuguese control until the mid 1960's when it was handed back to become the 22nd ( I believe ) state of India.  The Portuguese have been handing out passports to any one in Goa who can show they were born or descended from someone who was born in Goa whilst it was under Portuguese control. This is still happening today.  The Portuguese Government was keen on immigration and needed young, right Indian workers to come to the country so the policy was pursued with some effort. However, the Indians did not want to go to live in Portugal - the pay was crap, the jobs were poor and their treatment was not always good. So well in excess of 300,000 of them applied for their Portuguese EU Passport and now live and work legally in the UK under EU freedom of movement rules!  In many ways that is great news for the UK, as we have bright, hard working people who pay their taxes working and living peacefully in the UK. But it does make a mockery and show what a sham the common movement area and ideal is within Europe when one country can enforce a policy like this that so impacts another country that has no right or say in it!  The EU's one size fits all approach just does not, and will not, work.

There are too many people in Europe (and many here in the UK) who have made millions out of the corruptness of the system that is the EU. It is time for it to be disassembled and time for it to go back to what it was, at its most successful time - a simple common market to foster trade, good will and positive relations between, and for the benefit of all member states and their citizens in Europe.

I for one am glad we are leaving the EU. And I cannot wait.

However, I will still look to holiday and spend my hard earned money in Europe. I will still look to buy European goods. I will remain good friends with the friends I already have in Europe, and I would like to think that over the years I have left I will make many more good friends from all parts of Europe. I will I know, for certain, not miss anything that the EU has to offer.
