Exige 430/410 - trackday exhaust advice?

Recommended Posts

I am considering purchasing an Exige 430/410 for trackday use, but am aware that the factory fitted exhaust will fail noise limits on almost all UK trackdays.

Based on what I have found from some internet research, the following aftermarket options are available:
1) Seriously Lotus: https://www.seriouslylotus.com/lotus-quiet-track-s...
2) Komotec: https://www.komo-tec.com/en/lotus-exige/mk3-toyota...
3) For a time I believe Lotus offered a factory approved aftermarket option, but no longer do: https://mailchi.mp/80360bea9100/lotus-track-exhaus...
From what I have read elsewhere online, I believe this is the same as the options listed above that are still offered by Seriously Lotus and Komotec

4) 2Bular: https://www.2bular.co.uk/exige-380/qp-track-system
5) Hangar111: https://www.hangar111.com/shop/lotus-exige-v6-exha...
6) Komotec muffler: https://www.komo-tec.com/en/lotus-exige/mk3-toyota...

This website (I assume written by 2Bular) is not complimentary about all options other than theirs:
http://www.exhaustcompare.com/index.php/news/item/...

But then I have read other forum postings that are equally uncomplimentary about 2Bular.

This Pistonheads user seems happy with his 2Bular exhaust:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I would very much appreciate some advice from anyone that has researched the same issue, or has fitted any of the above options, as to what you would recommend?

I don't mind not being able to drive Goodwood/Thruxton, but am looking for a solution that would get me on track at all other UK tracks, without having to coast/liftoff/short shift each time I go past the DB sensors at the track - want to be able to drive full chat without having to constantly worry about noise!

Did you get to a definitive answer on what is the best option ?

2Bular was the option advised to me, independently by two different UK Lotus dealers.

My local dealer also recommended Jim but also said you need to fettle the brackets etc to get to fit.

Might be the way forward, thanks

I've had a 2bular QT system on order and paid for since the 4th Jan, with an original estimate for delivery of less than 2 weeks.  Like others I've had umpteen promises for delivery dates that come and go, and it appears Jim won't answer the phone to me.  It's now 5 months since ordering and without explanation, my money has been refunded this morning.  I appreciate that Brexit and Covid have had an impact, but a bit of honesty would be nice, rather than constant hollow guarantees.  If Jim had said at some point during the last months that he couldn't fulfil the order I could have made alternative arrangements and saved myself a whole lot of hassle, instead I've got a trackday coming up at Silverstone in the near future with little time to source a suitable exhaust (Cup 430).  Buyer beware.

It was the complete 2bular QT system inc additional cans, whatever that includes.

I've now ordered a Hangar 111 exhaust instead which is due for delivery tomorrow

I've fitted the Hangar QT exhaust now, which arrived in less than 24 hours!  I haven't formally checked the static dB but it is dramatically quieter than the stock Titanium exhaust.  I'm doing Silverstone, Snetterton and Cadwell within the the next month or so, will feed back if any issues.

5 Months! 😲

I was told my back box would be with me last week and I'm still waiting, I'm only two months from first ordering so it looks like I have a while longer to wait.

From our testing, it is around 94dB static at 4500rpm.  OEM exhaust was 104db.  Drive-by shouldn't be much more than 90dB.  When we were testing the prototype on track, it was averaging 85dB at Brands Hatch, versus 97dB and a black flag for the stock 350 silencer.

I've got the KT more expensive one, it's the only one that has DB ratings. Nothing would be worse than getting something cheaper but not making the DB limit.

Which is the OE Lotus one.  dB readings for ours are on the webshop here.  We also have full E-type approval, so is fully road-legal throughout EU.

Did you just say the komotec silent exhaust is the lotus OE one?

Well you said you bought 'the more expensive one, the only one with DB readings'.  If you mean this one, then that is OE Lotus.

Yes that is the one. Why would they sell me the OE lotus muffler if thats what is too loud to begin with? Further why would it not be streetlegal and track use only if it's OE lotus?

OE as in supplied by lotus, But its not fitted to the car in production. Its a Lotus after market track silencer sold as track only, probably due to homologation reasons.

Used one on my 3 Eleven 430 and it made a MASSIVE difference in bring the noise level down

Has anyone tried the DB eater from komotec? allegedly takes 3db off the standard exhaust.

I have done a track day at Donnington with the standard exhaust where I was lifting on the main pit straight past the microphone and had no issues all evening, this is a 98 db driveby limit.

Now I'm thinking this is a decent compromise for the 95db tracks. I don't mind lifting off as I'm no track hero and not chasing track times.  So just wondering if anyone has used one with a 410 or 430?
