Federal Vs Euro exhaust system

Hi Guys, 

 

I have a question about the Exhaust system on a Fed S1. My car has manifold.....down pipe........cat.....then rear silencer. Will a Euro spec rear silencer and short pipe that runs from the silencer bolt directly onto my existing down pipe?

 

Here are the parts I want to replace.

You need to replace the bracket on the transmission and the down pipe.

The manifold id the same.

Are you fitting a U.K. rear Valance?

Yes I have the UK rear valance . 
 

ok so all new from the manifold back plus a new gearbox bracket ? Thanks for the info . 
 

Can you recommend a supplier ?

SJ Sportscars is the best for all the parts, you will need new clamps, manifold to downpipe gasket and new fastenings as well.

I asked SJ the same question and they said the euro silencer with bolt up to the OE parts , I asked about the bracket and they didn’t say it needed changing, strange .

Back on this topic. The UK version gearbox bracket arrived but it has no speedo cable support, is there another bracket on the RHD esprit for this ?

There is a small right angled bracket that bolts to your new bracket (top right hand hole in your pic) onto which a P clip bolts to support the speedo cable.

I need longer bolts for the 2 that go through the bracket where its spaced on the gearbox....They appear to be m7x1.0mm. I need 1 at 115mm length and the other at 40mm length. I can source the 40mm one no problem but can't find anything for the other one. 

 

Did you convert yours over from Federal?

@omegamanMine's a UK car. If you have the measurements try somewhere like Namrick assuming you're UK based.

Hi, Yes I'm in the UK. I just had a look at that site...thanks, nothing in M7 x1.0mm x 115mm ...Most places only seem to go as long as 60mm.

Try Hawks Fasteners in Middlesbrough. I bought all my bolts from them, but having a UK car I'm not sure which bolt you're referring to.

m7 is is not a very common bolt size so not many places stock a large range of lengths.

If studs will do then m7 cylinder head studs are common on many motorbikes and scooters in a wide range of lengths particularly 110mm to 140mm.

These 115mm ones available on ebay at £7.46 with free postage, I'm sure loads of others are available.

Its the bolts in the back of the gearbox that hold the exhaust bracket in place. The federal bracket is flat against the gearbox with no standoffs. The UK version has 2 standoffs which make the existing bolts too short. I managed to find some 7mm threaded bar online for £5 .

Yes I noticed those but found a 1m length online for a fiver. I think the m7 thing is typically Citreon. 

I noticed the old Federal exhaust bracket had the speedo drive bracket welded to it, so I cut it off and used that.

I ordered all of these parts some time ago. Today I got time to trial fit the exhaust system.....It doesn't fit hahah, The rear box seems way too low and the exit pipes too far to the right. 

 

Take a look at the photos and see if you can spot anything wrong. Your setup fits an S1 right with Euro rear valance?

I fitted mine to a Federal S2 with Domestic S2 valance (JPS), I went for the system without the middle box so not the same as yours with the flexi.

My system was from PNM but was terrible as below, their welding skills are horrendous so I had to rework it all. The SJ system was so much better when I visited Steve which is what I have bought for my S1.

I didn’t fit the system with the extra box though so I used the version with that deleted. I had no issues with the alignment, I take it you have left it all slack?

I did cut this pipe and remove a slither but put this down to the poor quality of the PNM system and it just felt under strain albeit fitted, as you can see my welding is far superior and I’m not even very good at it! 😉

Sorry you are having issues as well, I have just bought a system for my LHD S1 so may hit similar issues.

Ah I see, I guess the S2 Valance is deeper and allows for the rear box to sit lower. I'll see what I can do using the old box and bracket as a reference. I've got a welder, I can chop it about if I have to. 

So did you buy an S1 system or S2 system from SJ for your S1?

My car had the S2 valance, if fitting to the S1 I’m surprised Steve didn’t advise the S1 system.

This S1 had the S2 valance fitted.

The car has a 4 branch so I bought a new link pipe and silencer only. 👍🏻
