water leak

well i noticed a small trickle of water on the road under the s4 this evening, around the middle of the engine not had time to get under under it, any usual suspects hose etc?

Water pump. Good luck with it, they're not an easy job to replace.

could also be intake manifold coolant hose, other hoses, or the coolant line to the turbo (the flare fittings fail).

Would also be worth checking the chargecooler pump.

Looked like the charge cooler is ruled out as the headder tank level has dropped

Isn't yours the single header type? if so, don't rule out the chargecooler system.

Is it warm coolant or cold? Cold cold would indicate chargecooler, as mine was when it had a similar mid engine area leak as you describe. I got it down to one of the pipes that run through the chassis where they protrude into the engine bay end and join a coolant hose. As my car was going to be completely stripped anyhow for its rebuild, I wasnt worried....although my stainless steel pipes have turned up today so I can replace all four chassis pipes....When the rest is back together
