I don't see any reason why Elite/Eclat/Excel prices couldn't go up for exceptional low milage examples such as this one and the two that sold at auction from the Glasius Collection.  THe price being asked for this one (even taking into account the history) as well as the ex-Glasius cars are beyond excessive.

Just my opinon, but I think these cars are really undervalued in general - but that green eclat is a unique car, specially built for Colin Chapman. Old Mark 2 escort RS2000s go for that sort of money, or Lotus Cortinas etc. It may have been a bad time in Lotus' history but still significant.

 

Imagine if it was Enzo Ferraris own specially built 308 or Dino etc, what sort of money it would fetch. Colin Chapman may have had a dark side about the safety of his cars and financial dodgyness in the Delorean years, but still one of the greatest (if not the greatest) autosport innovators of all time.

Every time I click onto CarandClassic.com and see the latest prices asked for really dull old cars I'm left scratching my head. People say it's aspirational stuff people couldn't afford, so XR3s/RSs etc appreciate. How then is it stuff that your Grandad's bank manager would drive (Humbers/Sunbeams etc) thet seemed to be 800 quid at last glance are also going daft. I mean did anyone ever aspire to an automatic Wolseley 1300? All yours for £7000;

I would love such a car. But the price is just insane.

Hopefully there will be one for sale with a reasonable price at some point...

Its pretty well documented that Classics have jumped in value to 'insane' levels over the last couple of years. I am of the opinion that Éclat's and Elites have been 'insanely' good value for the last 20 years. Its pretty inevitable that everything in good condition and of interest will be dragged with it. Is £25k for something well presented, low mileage, rare and with its special provenance a lot of money? I don't think so at all.

I would like to know what would you would consider a 'reasonable' price Tests.

Relative to other Eclats it is one heck of a price but it also comes with one heck of a story.

Well I am kinda of judgemental, because I do not value the fact, that this car has a somewhat special history.

Since the car itself does not show any of its "special features" in visuals, I value it like any other car of the same model. Therefore I would not want to pay any more than for any other Eclat S2 in this condition.

I see that this this car is in exceptional good shape and given the low mileage, I would definitely pay quite a lot for it.

But as The Pits pointed out, this price is nothing in relation to similar examples in the last year, I see no point in giving that much for this one.

This might be guesswork, but I also don't think, that the previous owner got anything close to this.

For a person to buy a car for its history, this might be a fair price, but for me this is completely unrelated to the actual value.

This car is in Belgium, has a french registration and is a RHD

I don't believe that many people in continental  Europe will be prepared to pay 35.000 euros for it ...

This car is trading completely on its history, squint at the interior/engine and it's a litle tired, dare I say shabby for the price? Agreed a car is "only original once" but it's like owners of original S1 Esprits, torn between an original interior that has turned back to an oil based product, or a nice new retrim?

i cannot see a low mileage car nor a car in exceptional condition here:

 

it has 55000 miles....not extremely high, neither low

the leather on the (driver) seat looks like its well used and near to crack

the enginebay looks dusty and not really as clean as the rest fo the car. i expect similar, or even worse, underneath.

sure the car has a kind of history...but this car is not sold for driving, its only sold for investment....hence the price.

looking on the other adverts from Albion motors i must say: the majority of cars are offered at least double the usual market price.

 

my excel was first registered to lotus germany....and its a rare LHD one owner SA...

i have heard chapman´s son was sitting in that car when traveling around europe

how much should i ask for that? 25000,-  or 45000,-?
