Another great money saving thread. Just bought my bearing from a supplier in the US. Arrived in a week and cost only $23. German flennor fs03299 from rockauto.com

For UK/Euro buyers the P&P for the Flennor from Rock Auto is disproportionate for some reason/

Yes, an ages old one, the engine referred to as York.

Yup - dimensions match that of a bearing from a 70s diesel Transit.

There are a lot of places advertising it, at ridiculously low prices, but few actually stock it. Got one for about £17 delivered, or about a third of the SKF, looks and feels good quality.

I just pressed my new SKF 414871A into place and I also felt a bit of notchyness. I wouldn't call it rough as a badger's arse, partially for my limited experience with the posterior of said mammal, but also because while it's a bit rough, it's not too bad. But I can hear the rollers when I rotate by hand. Is this one of the duff bearings or? I installed using a vice and press with 2 sockets. Can't see that I messed anything up.

Thoughts? How smooth SHOULD a new bearing feel? Should it be entirely silent? I've also seen the PDF Mysterae posted about initial roughness due to SKF grease.

I'm assuming you pressed the internal race? :-)   If it feels the way I think you're describing, then I've felt it too, a few times. 

I've had a few perfectly good bearings feel just the tiniest bit notchy after pressing.  One was on my Carb Turbo and did many thousands of miles without a whisper.  All similar have survived without issue.  Unless you can find a badger that it will compare to, I'd say go with it!

Yeah inner race, we did things by the book - not a trace of a mark on the seal anywhere. I've cocked up bearings before so know how they feel when I've mashed the race, this is more like a dryish sensation

Glad you got it fixed. I did two timing belts in one day and installed two belts. Both came from JAE and both worked perfectly. Sorry you had trouble!

Thought I'd better add to this old thread in case anyone finds it with a search.

For reference GT3 owners should not use any tensioner bearing other than the SKF original part. As the bearing fits into an additional shell the external dimension is more critical than other Esprits. Cross matching parts may not be exactly the same, and the Flennor version at least definitely does not fit.

Well, I am tracking down a noise that I am suspecting could be the tensioner. I have spent countless hours trying to find a piece of metal or something loose that is causing this. Even replaced the exhaust (cat back, it needed it anyway). I have bent shields, and small brackets thinking I had found the issue but haven't. It is particularly loud when you pass something flat like a fence or drive near a wall. Seems the same loudness on both side. Kinda seems to be coming from the front of the engine. Turning on the a/c does not affect it. It sounds just like a loose pipe clamp on an exhaust pipe or a washer or coin on a frame part etc. Dropped the plastic pan hoping I would find something but nope. Blue belt installed about a year ago but didn't replace the tensioner bearing. Where is the best place to get one? Would be great if I could find one I could just order online as opposed to having to call one of the specialist next week and wait for shipping from CA. Anyway, here is the video.
