Mudguard brackets....

Recommended Posts

No I'm not that brave, although I did put about half a dozen coats of under seal on them so it might not actually be that easy to see.

I'll get a set of these stainless ones for the spares box, but might need to leave it a few days or until SWMBO is speaking to me again as so far this year I have had a new set of forged wheels, complete with TPMS and tyres, just had it serviced and as a result today dropped £1200 on the parts for a MY12 gear cable upgrade.

I think that £35 might just cause a divorce right now.

Although my car is <1 year old there is evidence of rust on the mud flap brackets so I decided to get a pair of the stainless ones as spares.

I've received them this morning and have to say that they look a very high quality product.

I was intending keeping them as spares but think I will get them fitted as soon as the weather becomes nice enough for tinkering. At least this way the fixings will still be new enough to enable easy removal rather than using a dremel and drill like I had to do after a few years on the VX

As an aside, are these bolted to the chassis? If so, some Duralac will stop any galvanic corrosion.

Micheal, if you want to send me a set I'll happily take them to show the head of Aftersales at Lotus next week to see if they'd be interested? I know that they do use more coating on the mild steel ones now to try to solve this problem but yours do look to be the better answer.

Excellent, let me know how they fit Chris.

Incidentally, anyone know of any other brackets susceptible to rust on the Evora, or other models?

Nowhere near as bad, but the framework supporting the headlights can be susceptible too. Mine have been treated and painted. Not found anything else.

Just received a pair for my Evora, they look great.

My front grills are starting to corrode is this something you can help us all with? @Miguel

I was wondering if anyone did an aftermarket set in stainless which could be painted or powder coated. I'm sure they'd be a great hit !! :)

They are very, very nicely made. Took them to the factory yesterday and if they need some other than the ones currently used, these are going to be considered, they were very impressed :)

Thanks Bibs! Not often you get any praise as a metal basher! Currently down to the last pair in stock, sold 11 sets so far -not going to retire on this but it's a nice distraction from the mundane things we make. I'll probably make 50 sets next and ensure I always have some for those in need.

Does anyone know if they still use the mild steel ones on the 400? Would be a shame given all the improvements.

Hi Steve,

The stainless weld nuts are M5 threads but I believe some cars have screws, some rivets, and some both, depending on model year I guess. I'm ashamed to say, but I didn't fit mine but I was told rivets had to be drilled which shouldn't be too bad as I presume they are aluminium.

Thanks bibs, hope ok Michael. Will sort payment as soon as I get payment details.

Steve, there are 4 rivets to each bracket, each with a small washer. These are easily drilled out but you need to remove the a panel.

you will also likely need new screws and washers (reuseable) for the mud flap. These are black so probably best to get from lotus. I just ordered the lot as easy and cheap.

http://www.deroure.com/diagrams.asp?TBL=5546&MAK=1&MDL=20&SMA=0&SMO=0&ST=&SC=0

Parts 9,10&11. 8 of each. the washers for the mud flaps are not shown.

pretty easy job

As far. As instructions are concerned, it is relatively straight forward.

Remove sufficient scrivets from the wheel parch liner to enable you to peel it back once the mudflap is off.

You won't be able to undo the 4 screws in the mudflap because they will be rusted solid. By all means try, but I don't think I got any of mine out. What you need to do is carefully wiggle the mud flap back and forth until the remaining metal snaps. You can try getting some tin snips or wire cutters in there as well.

Getting the remnants off the wheel arch lining is the most difficult part of the job, I managed to get most off by carefully using a junior hacksaw to cut through the bolts.

To remove the A panels, there are 2 bolts under the car, remove these. You then need to pull out the foam from inside the wheel arch. There are 2 bolts inside the wheel arch at the top of the panel. Remove these (note, there are spacers held in by these bolts so take note of where they are or you will be fiddling with them on reassembly to line up the panel.

The A panel can now be removed.

Next stage, drill out the rivets securing the old bracket. Rivet on new one.

Reassembly is reverse of removal.

Simples.

OK, a bit late I know but my Evora and the mudguard brackets (and a few other things) were handed to leading Lotus Independent Specialist Craig Moncrieff in Scotland for fitting.

He was really impressed with the brackets and said they were an easy fit. I got the feeling he'd be in touch to secure a set or two for other customers.  Nice to get the feedback from someone who knows what they were doing so thought I'd share.
