We all know Colin Chapman bought JCL Marine/Moonraker and applied (borrowed?) glassfibre technologies into boats, but his boat designs were mostly large boats and didnt appear to have much in common with his cars.

I stumbled across this picture of an older Bayliner, and it just screamed LOTUS ECLAT at me. Check out the window aperture and sloping rear line done in chrome. It's like the top section of an eclat has been grafted onto a (very sleek) hull.

I absolutely love the look of this thing - very early 80's sports.

I think with the Bayliner's rear glass shape it would need to be an Eclat - the Elites goes upwards and the excel has no chrome.

I believe the boating fraternity refer to them as 'BinLiners'.

Some more research suggests the boat in question is a Bayliner Cobra from around 1988.

Some more research suggests that Bayliner (always value for money driven entry level boats) had some pretty ropey quality control issues, especially between 1987-1990.

Ahhh well....

at least it looks nice.

Given mine has been the only eclat there for the past two years I reckon I'll be safe enough
