Sadly it seems these days that a lot of 'other people' just want to do as they please without any respect or regard for others, neighbours included. Then, if you politely ask them to be a bit more considerate you get told to F off.
We were lucky to have lovely neighbours at our previous place and a real community feel. Where we are now people seem a bit less interested in getting along and more about doing what they want and watching the other residents. Since we moved here 4 years ago I think we've had 4 notes through the door from a certain retired couple, complaining about everything from someone putting rubbish in their bin to 'strangers' in our paddocks that run behind their property. They also seem to be the self appointed local planning police, writing reams of objections to local planning applications, many of which are miles from them, and reporting anything they don't like to the council. All pretty sad...
The more I speak to people though the more it seems that everyone has a 'difficult' neighbour and we could be much worse off. Friends of ours moved away to Cornwall to escape traffic and neighbour noise. They now live on a remote small development of 6 houses on the side of a golf course and their new neighbour is mowing, power washing or making some other noise from dawn till dusk every day. They're moving again...
