Contacted Big Red brake experts. They were unable to identify the Esprit rear caliper model! Why is everything Lotus such a mystery? I have fell into the trap and taken the calipers completely to pieces( yes the mechanical bit that the handbrake cable actuated).  The front one is simple. The rears also pretty simple. A standard caliper operation with a mechanical lever to push the piston out when the handbrake is pulled. All simple unless the spring pin that centres the spring(shown in picture)  is rotten. Then you might have to drill it out and replace it! You also might loose the retaining circlip. But of course this hasn't happened to me as I am very tidy! ☹️☹️☹️☹️

They have been plated first and then painted with heat resistant paint, as the plating corrodes. This way they should really last.

I was told this servo is an exact copy of the Girling Type 50 as per the parts manual. If it is and it works I think it will be superior to a refurb and less than half the cost, we are all on a budget else this hobby can get out of control very quickly!

Well as I’m already restoring an XT500 to go with mine....perhaps you should start measuring up the 2CV when you are next out in Miami ?

My car hasn't been on the road for over 14 years. Consequently the rear calipers needed attention. This is inside the  bit they tell you not to dismantle. In the case of these they would not have worked with the handbrake as the ratchet mechanism was seized. So I'm glad I took them apart. I had to remove this tiny rubber seal and hone the bore. I then polished the ratchet part and now it moves perfectly. Quite simple set up. You have to rotate the piston through 45 degrees so it contacts the splines for the handbrake. Nearly ready to put it all back together. 

In the end I got the brake parts from S and J. Quicker and faster than trying to explain everything to someone, as Steve has already done the hard work and sourced the bits. New slider pins for the rear and shim plates all round. Lots of parts in the Turbo!

Weren't the rears from a Lancia Gamma?   If so, research suggests they were originally s Girling part.   check out ref 341030/341031 on google.   If these are correct looks as though they may have been remanufactured by Budveg or Kawe

Yes and SJ prices are usually pretty good. On the other hand we still have one of those old fashioned car spares shops here which seem to stock everything although the shop is tiny. He goes somewhere "out the back" which must be some hidden vast warehouse and he can always come up with brake pads and caliper kits for an Esprit after a 30 second look in the Girling book.

Anyone know what brakes were on the Citroen SM or Maserati Merak. With the same gearbox I suppose there is a chance the callipers  are the same? And that may lead to alternative suppliers for parts..........Maybe!

Harry says the SM is completely different but Merak has similar calipers but pistons are smaller.

The front and rear bumpers have the S1 anti rub strip. They were not Essex cars but specially commissioned, according to the plaque.

David, its 50 mm high at the Apex and 90 mm wide.

It's located 48mm above the base of the window and the left edge is 115 mm from the window frame.

We can buy the Copper car for 250000 dollars? Any donations?

Which car is the VIN plate pic above from? It has a Monaco White paint code on it.

It's the Copper Fire car Vin plate you wanted to see. The serial on the windscreen matches it also.

Has anyone found any more original 38 mm wheel badges they can spare please?
