Any event that uses timing equipment. ie a race meet or hill climb etc

A trackday is specifically a non-timed event so they don’t invalidate the warranty.

So, the distinction is whether the track organizer/event is doing the timing vs self-timing?

Otherwise, don't wear your Rolex while you are on track.

Nope. The use of any timing device invalidates the warranty (technically). It doesn't matter if that device is trackside or in the car.

Sorry to hear about this, I would guess that it's pretty rare - that's what we're all hoping anyway...

i think you need to check the engine bay on the Happy Meal model, could be some random bits of Big Mac in there...

First V6 failure I’ve heard of. Sorry it had to happen to you. I hope a new engine is on its way out there soon. Best of luck and keep us posted. It will be very interesting to find out what happened.

In Middle East the Lotus owners group is not very large. I hope the dealer will sort out the situation quickly and well.

Picked up my loaner car earlier tonight, the Evora 400. Damn its so quiet and comfy, and it has electric side mirrors, xenon lights and I can even lower the passenger side window from my door. So much tech!

The warranty will be fine. Following the statements in the warranty's details about track days I wrote to Lotus and they replied saying you would be covered as long as there hadn't been any engine mods. I posted the letter they sent it on this forum. If you need it I will dig it out.

 Thank you for your recent e-mail.

 Whilst our formal policy may at first seem contradictory and at odds on how we position our products within the market place, we will not invalidate the warranty if the car is used for occasional (un-timed) track use.

 

Each request for warranty support is review and considered on its own merits/circumstances with the facts as presented to us by the repairing dealer and like any other manufacturer, Lotus reserves the right to decline a request for a warranty repair if we feel the car has been abused, modified or not maintained in accordance with our recommendations.

 I hope this makes sense?

Dear sir/madam

 

I have recently acquired a V6 Exige S that has 18 months of warranty to run. I bought it for road use and the occasional untimed track day to fully enjoy its capabilities but, have concerns over

whether my warranty will still be valid.

 

Within the service booklet and warranty booklet there seems to be statements saying I would not be covered if I did these events i.e Page5 of the Elise/Exige Warranty booklet, point 2, its states -

The Elise/Exige is intended for use as a road going passenger vehicle. IT IS NOT DESIGNED OR INTENDED FOR USE OFF ROAD, INCLUDING ON CLOSED CIRCUIT TRACKS OR FOR USE IN COMPETITIVE

MANNER, INCLUDING TIMED LAPS OR RUNS. ANY SUCH USE WILL INVALIDATE THE NEW VEHILE WARRANTY.

 

Any clear clarification from yourselves would be very much appreciated.

Just an update. Lotus approved an engine swap under warranty. Still don't know the cause of the engine failure but if I do find out anything from the dealer will post it here.

I've traded in my Exige S for a 380 Cup.
