Peoples’ reaction to your Evora

Nipping to the local supermarket last night, I managed to bump into the local "drive by" crowd as I went around a roundabout.  30 seconds later, the four of them came up behind me and nipped past on the dual carriageway tooting, waving and thumbs upping.  Quite surreal.

To my shame, I then proceeded to shoot back past them in a couple of gears lower than I needed to be, and with sports mode fully engaged.  You can take the boy out of Newport...

It's very odd crawling down a jammed slip road onto an almost stationary dual carriageway to have the folks in the car next to you on the road beckoning and pretty much insisting that you pull on in front of them. Basically the reverse of what happens when my mate drives in his BMW, cars nose to bumper and everyone resolutely refusing eye contact...

New one today, got videoed by a couple of cars passing me on the M77. Evidently the Gumball rally was coming up the road today.

We are trying to sell our house at the moment and Charlotte had arranged for an estate agent to come round and do a valuation. On her way home to meet the agent she was messing around with the revs and bridges etc. to maximise the noise (see, she's just as bad as me despite what she says). The car in front of her took a familiar route and it turned out to be the visiting agent. Apparently he spent as much time enthusing over the car as he did the house valuation.

If that enthusiasm translates to his work effort, we should sell in no time.

Therefore, to sell a house, buy an Evora 400! Makes perfect logical sense to me.

Another day out in the GTE. Today is father's day in Germany. Interestingly it seems to be celebrated primarily as an outdoor drinking binge by students and similar who definitely are not yet father to anything.

Nonetheless, we ggot about 30 thumbs up en route and enquiries every time we stopped. Most amusing question was if Lotus was a carmaker or the model name. Like I said, they are quite young (and also weren't very sober).

Heather and I were walking back to the car after doing some shopping in M&S in South Gyle (Had just been at MMC to look at Volvo's as the daily  ) and the couple walking in front of us spotted the 400 in the car park. Yet again, and I'm getting a bit sick of this now in an amused way, woman to husband "Oh wow, check out that Ferrari", husband replies, and this is the bit that made us laugh "Aye, you'll never get a more stunning car than a Ferrari". I look at Heather and whisper "wanna bet?" 

So they're standing staring at it, and I think eventually it dawned on them that wait a minute, those aren't Ferrari badges, it says LOTUS????? They walked off, we jumped in and I think the guy was a bit surprised a tramp like me owned it. They walk toward M&S and I then start the car up in Sport mode, the wife nearly takes a heart attack with fright and spins round to big smiles from us. Funny, but maybe a bit rubbish people STILL don't know what it is, especially when the dealership was a bout five minutes away! Drove off to a few thumbs ups anyway. 

Then went off for a drive here and there, the car just snaps necks wherever it goes. Being so sunny today we were driving around windows down and taking in the noises she makes, it really is no surprise people hear it coming from a mile away. Epic. Just......epic.

We had a lovely sunny day here in Auckland last weekend, so it was windows down time! I was driving slowly down a steep (ish) hill and round a corner as we passed a mother and her son. I could hear them enthusiastically yelling "Ferarri, Ferrari!!!" (from the boy) and "Lambor Genie, Lambor Genie" from the Mum... She wasn't a local and had a bit of an accent :-)  If only they knew :-)

I was musing on the fact that our cars get mistaken for Ferarris or Lambos all of the time and this is in some ways nice and yet frustrating, but then I wondered how many p-car owners have driven around a corner and had strangers exclaim "Beetle, Beetle!!!". Perhaps not enough, so I've resolved to do this more.

Haha. When we were young, my brother and I used to yell "Your lights are on!" at Volvo and Saab drivers as they went past.

Doesn't really have the same effect nowadays.

I think the fact these cars are usually mistaken for Ferraris rather than 911s should tell you a lot as to just how "exotic" the Evora appears to most people. 

Obviously some people will think anything red and low is a Ferrari, but the majority of people are not car people. It's for this reason I love it when people spend time with Joe public and their kids telling them about the car. If just one of those kids goes home and puts a poster of an Evora on their wall (or their iPad background) then that's mission done. Historically the Esprit always went toe-to-toe with the Ferrari V8 of the day. It's a credit to that car that it was compared with FIVE generations of F-Car (The 308 was in production when the first car came out, the 360 was five years old when production finished!). Given an absence of a new Esprit, the Evora I would say is doing a fine job of helping Lotus return to those heady days of giving Enzo what-for.

I was heading into town to get some petrol. There is a couple of miles of dual carriageway with a 50mph limit. Driving along I noticed a group of 4 bikes in the rear view mirror. First one pulled up alongside as we drove along and matched speed. Had a look and gave a thumbs up. Then the second bike did the same. Followed by the last two.

I came out from paying for my tank of fuel at our local station earlier today to find a brand new 911 Carrera 4 at the pump next to mine. As I fired up, 'Mr Porker' looked over with an approving smile, a nod of his head and a hand wave which really told me he was thinking "Damn, I've gone and bought the wrong car haven't I?".

The OH is currently driving the Evora as I needed a bigger car for a couple of business trips with clients this week.  

She was giggling as she recounted the story of her first solo visit to a petrol station in the Evora - and the attention she was given as she got out of it;  "It's a bit different to when I clamber out of the Discovery..."

First few days and I've had

A bus driver let me out, when it was his right of way. That's pretty rare and unexpected.

A lady in a petrol station in Leeds asked me what it was, then said "I win the lottery, I'd get myself one of them. It's a lovely colour that" Quite shocked me really, I've never had a lottery comment on ANY car I've been in or driven. 

A motorcyclist in Ipswich pulled up beside me and started giving me random compliments. I couldn't tell what they were, but they were definitely compliments - I know an angry motorcyclist when I see or hear one!

The neighbour, who I had previously told I would probably be getting a Lamborghini, Ferrari or an R8 said "You've done better I think".

And the usual turns, stares and looks of approval. Notably a lot of women seem to pay attention to it, more than I would normally expect.

I got some petrol on my way to meet up with @Trevsked for the Newlands meet yesterday, went to pay and the young guy behind the till said which pump, I said 2 to which he looked up at the forcourt and his eyes popped out of his head and jaw dropped then said is that a "Lotus Evora"? He seemed impressed and asked if he could take a picture etc, not sure his boss was too keen on him leaving the till though lol. Didn't have the heart to tell him I was meeting Trev in his GTS just around the corner

Not to steal the thread as I love the Evora and one day !!. However, I get the same all the time with the Yellow Peril, cant go anywhere without someone asking to take a pic, or at a filling station. Can I sit in the seat for a mo. In my case I think it's the in your face color that does it.

As for the Evora. It's simply a stunning looking car.

The Evora is a massive head turner! I underestimated just how much. All positive though which is good. It's sad but I like the fact it turns heads. It makes me proud to own it. Sad? Maybe but I don't care!
