  1. Run both for an hour independently keeping the rest of your useage as constant as possible and take readings to calculate the cost. Probably best to do when you're home alone so you can avoid the family forgetting and distorting the results. (For a full test you should probably do this a few times to get an average comparison). But I'd hazard a guess that the boiler should be more efficient than the immersion heater. I remember my folks going batshit crazy if I used it without their permission due to the cost, but on the grounds that I haven't lived with them since 1988, there's a good chance the technology has improved.
  2. Changed our world. Worth a watch.
  3. Don't disagree with the macro-economic factors. I am not a simpleton. The increase in share-holder value and wages of the upper percentiles are however demonstrably disproportionate to the rate of increase in average earnings. By significant factors. Interestingly, our reliance on Russian energy sources is far lower than most in Europe. Energy price rises in the rest of Europe certainly make interesting reading when mapped against their dependence on a now restricted supply...Indeed, the UK's problem is more storage than supply. The increase in consumer demand post-covid has been relatively short-lived (in Economic terms) due to the current crisis, and the UK was largely in line with the rest of Europe. The prices of goods and services have increased, but largely at (small) percentages higher than increased costs. That's normal business behaviour - and the increases are usually a hedge against future costs. Profits aren't bad, they're kind of essential. So far, so what? What is "bad" (and I'll grant this is subjective) is the obscene amount of profiteering being made in some sectors. There are plenty of ways to tackle this, and even the most ardent right-of-center should probably concede that announcing record profits by companies in the energy sector during the current cost-crisis is downright wrong. And inflationary. Which is really the root of my post. Not quite sure anyone with any sense would view the current situation as Utopia, regardless of their particular political leanings.
  4. Bleeding heart, left-wing, woke, snowflake here. Just sticking my head above the parapet...
  5. Back end of September for me, too. Open to suggestions for the next location. I'm in for Chrimbo!
  6. Looking forward to seeing those who can make it this evening.
  7. Pfft. I don't even have a month, just a year...
  8. This. I have an i4FE Emira on order, but to be honest my faith is a little rattled. I'm sure they'll get their shit together, but I am starting to have wandering thoughts. It's probably just a moment in time, but I was having this exact same conversation with the OH yesterday. The Evora is my daily. I love it, genuinely. My miles have dwindled to almost zero these days and I am having very similar thoughts. The Exige is a tempting prospect @hamza, but I've wanted an Elise since launch and this might be the ideal time to scratch that itch - even if prices have gone a bit doo-lally. Plus, having owned two V6s I feel a little low-mass four banger would be a refreshing change (and all my schoolboy posters were of Lotus 4-pots). Like I say, probably just idle thoughts - first world problems and all that. Genuinely interested in people's thoughts, too.

    Ale

Hop-forward beers are a "thing". My only hope is that it's a "gateway beer" for people to get in to the real stuff... The look of bemusement on many of the people behind a bar when I ask for a pint of "Best" is starting to get on my moobs. Thankfully, spent last weekend in Somerset where Butcombe Best is readily available and no such looks of puzzlement were forthcoming - even if the brewery themselves now call it "original".
  10. @Bibs Source on confusion identified. Thank crunchy I was wrong!
  11. Or, to play Devil's advocado (sic), from their point of view: "Why are we spending money to fix the problem you created"?
  12. Welcome Bob. Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you arrived at deciding to pull the trigger on an Emira? Car history is a must, and Photo's please!
  13. With regards to the "major incidents" you mention... there are quite a lot of things going Pete Tong (turns out that's not OK to use any more) wrong right now. Some of it is a bit melodramatic, but as someone with several members of the family in the NHS, Paramedics and other Emergency Services, it really is very much broken right now.
  14. 10 day isolation was a condition of travel last year, this meant that most didn't bother 52 weeks ago. This has been the first of the "big" travel weekends since Brexit. Pre-brexit, entry to the Schengen area required that the "first country" in the EU check that you were the person travelling - did your passport match your face. Post-Brexit (and this is the same for any non-EU citizen travelling in to the EU), they should now be checking that 1. Your passport matches and there is a mandatory stamp for entry and exit which is required to check 2. that you have not spent more than 90 days in a 180 day period 3. that you have the means to support yourself for the duration of your stay 4. Have accomodation arranged 5. Have a return ticket or exit from the EU booked. There's always been issues this weekend to be fair, and when things go wrong - as with all traffic bottlenecks - they go badly wrong. The added checks post-Brexit just exacerbate the problem.
  15. Great to see you all tonight. Think we decided on 16th August at The Drift Inn. Brockenhurst https://maps.app.goo.gl/EBks2DAc8QLK8cQBA
  16. Just for balance, based on my less than celebratory post above, I would like to point out that I am still insanely excited by this car. I have the "google alert" set up for every snippit of information, check all the Social Media channels and the Lotus Website not-quite daily for updates. I am still onboard. The wait is agonising. Not least as I've held on for the i4, which right now is an even less of a known quantity than those expecting their cars soon-ish. I kind of had spring 23 in my head when I placed my deposit a week before launch, so was prepared for a long weight. I really feel for those who are at the vinegar strokes of getting their V6 Emiras. It must be excruciating.
  17. I can understand your point @Mctaff, but that does feel a li'l harsh. Feels very much like they're trying to, but not putting much process and strategic thought in to it. I could be wrong. Like @ramjet says, this is supposed to be a brave new world for Lotus. There's a lot to change. It's just disappointing (and mystifying) that they're missing the mark.

  19. He's off! (Thanos breathing a huge sigh of relief)
  20. If Johnson survives this, I fancy his chances against Thanos...
  21. I can't, for the life of me, understand why this is so difficult. Sorry. If it wasn't for (for some of us at least) contact with Scott and other "insiders" some would probably had given up and walked by now. Those of us without those links must be sat there wondering what the Donald Duck is going on. On the back of tremendous good will at launch, pre-release reviews, and a surprisingly good review and fantastic exposure on Top Gear, Lotus seem to be squandering the opportunity to elevate the perception of themselves in the market. It's a heartbreaking thing to watch. We're Lotus enthusiasts. Comms with your customers are really, really important. They need to be consistent and timely. So far it's been a proper Cake and Arse party. I would say that "somebody" needs to be taking charge of this at Lotus, but I can imagine that it's analog to the following: This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. Within this forum, or this thread at least, we're holding on for the car. We know it will be worth the wait. For many it's a sinking and depressing familiarity of "same old Lotus, great cars, but..." It is such a shame. A wasted opportunity. We've parted with cash, we're emotionally invested. Maybe this is like that crazy, toxic relationship we had in our 20s... the fun stuff was shout out loud amazing, but they treated us like dirt (maybe that was just me). Outside of the forums/ Lotus Community, in the real/normal world, there's almost certainly a bemusement about what the ownership experience is going to be like - and the omens aren't good. I cannot believe however, that Lotus are satisfied with the current state of affairs. They can't keep relying on putting Matt in front of the camera, though. It's about time someone took charge otherwise Everybody will be thinking that Somebody is making a better offer that Anybody can provide and Lotus end up dealing with (effectively) Nobody.
  22. Anyone get any footage of the GT4 going up the hill?
  23. I'll never forget, when deployed as part of STANAVFORMED, the Canadian Fleet Air Arm's Seakings proudly stickered with, "Flying yesterday's airframes, Tomorrow".
  24. Might look better, but as a high mileage all year Evora driver, I'll take twin blades over a curved screen all day, every day. Single wiper performance generally not as good.
