Since buying my 400 I have lost 40 pounds of flab from the car and 70 pounds of flesh off my body.  When I bought the car I made a serious  vow to lose my excess avoid du pois in celebration of owning a Lotus and as the only sensible thing to do in the event.  I'm not just a bit proud to say I've achieved 70% of my goal since getting the car....which proves Evoras are good for your health! 

Need more good news?  It is actually cheaper to lose personal body weight than it is to maintain it which helps save money towards a Ti exhaust and Li battery!   For my personal butt weight program, every bit of cake I eschew, each baguette I don't buy and every Scotch I don't drink saves me money!  

The bad news?  That's only if it comes off my personal ass. Losing it off the Evora's  is getting more expensive!  Losing the first 35 pounds on the Evora cost $3500.   More bad news? I still have 30 pounds to carve off my rump and a lithium battery and Ti exhaust to buy for the Evora! (actually getting the battery and the exhaust and losing the last 30 pounds will be good news so there's a bit of wash there). 

If I was buying a GT and had to chose between the Ti exhaust or the carbon pack, I'd be somewhat at sea but  I suspect I'd get the carbon first because I could add the Ti after the fact but you can't do that with the roof.  

On topic: To repeat ad nauseam:  Lotus has not much future here until the  things that need to change actually do change.  Hopefully that will accompany the truly new vehicles they give us.  As  desirable as I find the GT, the situation here is at best only marginally better than it was a few years ago. Without investment nothing will change.

The amount of people I see clambering out of a lotus and showing me carbon this and that over the years in the name of weight saving and obviously over weight themselves always makes me grin.

By all means if you want carbon crack on who doesn't but if your after saving weight as you say fare easier and cost effective ways are usually right in front of you.

It's changed my life more than getting the car did.  I can honestly say that.  But truly, the Lotus was integral to the promise I made myself to get a bit fitter and more comfy in my own skin.  I started on a proper dietary program the day I drove it off the lot and that was announced to my wife when I bought the thing.  I reckoned her help and approval would be useful on both scores

 

As for getting the carbon, I've been doing that to the extent possible!  Rewards are justified with the money saved by not eating like an American.

@Loquacious Lew Nice ducktail. Get rid of the 3D badges and go for some stickers instead as per 410, 430. Looks even better with the Carbon IMHO.

Did this on mine and love the sportier look of the stickers.

I haven't posted on The Lotus Forums in quite a while, so here's an update from me: 

I got my Lotus back in March, before all this virus stuff really started affecting our way of life over here in the states. The week I got it, I took it to a reputable detail shop and got the roof, A-pillars, and carbon fiber cutouts in the rear bumper wrapped in PPF - those were the only critical areas that I felt should have been done from the factory but weren't. 

I ended up springing for the Ti exhaust and the carbon pack for that maximum 71lb weight savings. And I too feel that weight savings are negated when an overweight person drives the car anyway 😅 So congrats @Loquacious Lew on the 70lbs! Before this virus hit I was down 90lbs myself - now I'm just trying not to gain any back with my gym being closed.

Great to see guys investing in light weight components and then making sure they have not wasted there money by making sure they have a healthy diet. It’s the easiest and cheapest performance gain to be had. Plus all the other health benefits that come from looking after your self.

I personally think manual is king for ANYONE that wants a proper driving experience, having spent much time abroad (I lived in, and about for about three years, for work) I recognize the market is significantly different, even the enthusiast market is different; where driving is the priority and that experience (though not faster, unless expertly mastered, even then I think the data guys would argue paddles depending on their build are simply faster) of connection brought through a manual is irreplaceable.  

 

Speaking generationally, and speaking to the U.S. 'Canyon Rats' or 'Track Rats' still exist, and we are seeing the focus on the Driver from the younger generation as it becomes more accessible.  But often the enthusiast market is filled with less driving, more posturing at Cars and Coffee, in that I would agree.  The United States is huge, almost like mini Nation States, that provide a wide variety of terrain, manufacturers (Especially Euro) often see our market as a straight line, never ending highway HP focused buyer.  But if I could sit them down in my passenger seat any given weekend, I think they'd find themselves amidst a group of "Driving Enthusiasts" of all ages, and would be pretty surprised.  

 

The problem we have here, is that Dealerships and manufacturers, don't allow for more extended test drives, and in the case of Lotus, Most wouldn't understand it's true capability unless behind the wheel.  I offer if you put any one of these 95k buying Mustang GT guys in my passenger seat and let them really understand Lotus (and a slew of other brands) would take them to a level of performance they could never touch, and safely, they'd be shelling out their wallets as their expenses are usually self focused.  Let them drive around the block?  Then they'll focus on showroom aesthetics, 

 

I suppose to sum up, I think the NEED for the manual is relevant, and I hope Lotus doesn't change that standard, the 'add lightness' created for the experience and become the Renaissance of experience they should be.  I know I myself prefer the manual, and honestly I haven't driven one better than the Lotus (that's not to say one doesn't exist, it's just to say I haven't driven a better one).  Here's to hoping they remain that standard.
