Lotus:A new dawn on channel 4

Is it a new car? Hand on heart, do you consider it to be a brand new Lotus or would it be fairer to perhaps say it's an Exige S2 front and middle and Evora-ish rear with new bodywork?

The Exige V6 is wider, longer, heavier, much more powerful, has two extra cylinders, wider wheels and looks nothing like an S2 Exige. If that doesn’t constitute a new model, then what does? It’s a bit more than just another face-lift.

Even Top Gear magazine said it was “the first tangibly new car to emerge under this regime”

Apparently it is still type 111 (according to William Taylor's book "Lotus the marque") but, to make it a bit more confusing (for me at least), some of the Evora racing variants get different type numbers.

It looks as if Evora gt410 etc are type 132 going by the part numbers. Also 710 for some gt430 parts. So the next model ought to be a 133?

Anyway, I think getting back on topic rather than discussing what constitutes a new model isn't a bad idea.

Anyone think they'll be an episode 2?

Those two share a TLF forum. Exige V6 doesn’t. Case closed!

I'm sure the V8 esprit could be in this area, 4 extra cylinders, different chassis..... loads of additional features due to engine size, but is still an esprit. A different animal to a S1....

Did anyone else spot what appears to be a revised 4-piece front (LH Wing, Centre Section, RH Wing, Bumper), i.e. the end of the front clamshell and "A" panels?

Matt Windle even describes "the left-hand front fender" at this point.....

You can't go by the part numbers.  As that makes 131 years ago on the 1ZZ Elise.

For example, 132 was Evora, 138 was Exige V6, 147 was MY17.5 Elise.  Parts with a 7 at the start originated in Lotus Motorsport (but may have ended up on production line).

The part number breakdown is detailed in the Lotus parts lists.

Can't see the issue with it being on YouTube myself. A very positive programme on Lotus and what is happening there so essentially free, positive marketing. As more people get into the Emira and the brand, more people will be curious of the history, the build, the tech etc.

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

Lotus had said they hoped to publish it themselves, so I assume that was part of the deal with the production company and C4.
