Japan Releases Fully Performing Female AI Robots:

When I first read that, it made me chuckle...

But watching a bit it's actually pretty disturbing. Not only in how far AI has come and how close we seem to be getting to Terminator and similar dystopian scenarios. But also, do we really want to leave or sick and elderly at the mercy of some robot? Don't they deserve a bit of human attention and kindness? And how will this affect the already strained health services? In theory the robots could be of great help doing certain unpleasant/ time consuming duties. In reality I fear they will lead to even less human staff and even more stress, both for the patients and the staff.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Start worrying when they claim their right to identify as humans.  Then they'll be tearing down statues of Asimov...

Like you @Escape I find those robots and AI VERY disturbing and when they say "leisure use" I do have to admit my depraved mind thinks of "sex bots" and to be honest that just makes me want to puke.

The real question your post makes me ask is "If we treasure human interaction with the sick, elderly and infirm, so much why is that (1) we pay and treat the people who deliver that human interaction so poorly and (2) why don't more people want to do it? (I guess the answer to (1) will fuel the answer to (2)?)

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

Indeed. It used to be normal to care for the sick, elderly and infirm within the family. Then it got outsourced to hospitals and homes etc, for various reasons and no doubt with some advantages (expertise etc) as well. Now it seems it's all about the money. I fear adding robots to the mix will do little to improve circumstances like wages and workload and it will become even harder to find good personnel. And might up costing even more. I wouldn't call that progress.

Seems like I am a total Spuddler.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says "Susie Dent @susie_dent Word of the day is 'spuddle' (17th century): to work ineffectively; to be extremely busy whilst achieving absolutely nothing."

Very creepy indeed. Very much like Terminator. But without the amusing accent.
