First car - a red metal pedal car circa 1960

First "drive" of proper car was steering a sit up and beg Hillman Minx (KAE 900) at the age of 4 whilst standing on the drivers seat while my mum pushed it out of a parking space to the top of a hill to bump start it down.

First proper (and thereafter regular) drive - another HB Viva estate (Mum's car, J reg)

First own car - Ford 8cwt Van (FOA556L) bought from Dad's company fleet for

Loving Lionel and Eleanor......missing Charlie and Sonny

Dave...did I ever crash it? Hmmm..it's a looong time ago; probably had some close encounters with the odd flower bed, but I'm not prone to crashing. Yes, it was red, I think they all were...what I really coveted was a pedal fire engine, complete with ladders and fire hose and pump. I used to look longingly at it in the toyshop window; it was some horrendous price...so it never joined the Douglas fleet. Nearly thirty years later, I found myself working for the London Fire Brigade Workshops, and got to play with all the fire appliances one could desire....

First real car was a 1947 MG TC, which I rebuilt over 4 or 5 years..ended up supercharged, devoid of windscreen or hood..that was red, too. All prompted by a book.."The Red Car" by Don Stanford. I got it out of the library when I was 12..it's all about a young American lad who, surprise surprise, acquires an MG TC, rebuilds it and takes part in a local race. I only got my own copy of this when I found one on-line last year! All I can say is, it's very powerful stuff for a young mind, it got me hooked for sure..and the interweb has revealed that it did the same for a legion of other lads.

First car in this country - mini 998cc, sadly caught fire whilst driving it so went on to Mk 1 escort rally car, NUO 855G, complete with 2.0l pinto and twin '40's. No pictures of this three colour beauty survive (two-tone blue and primer on the forest arches) - but I loved it!

Capri man also. A white 1.6GL automatic CUG 387T. It was my first car after my driving test, so I remember driving home trying to make only left turns as I didn't want to turn right against the traffic!

Another Ford, but a Fiesta - and a basic 950cc one at that, in beige! It was my parents second car and I got it for my 17th birthday. Passed my test in it too, so fond memories

My first car was a Datsun 120Y inherited from my dad. It ended up with Cobra slot mags, pinstripes, and Paddy Hopkirk bucket seats. I loved it, but so did the tin worm. This was followed by a Nova kit car after seeing one in Street Machine.

This is the Nova Demonstrator we built when my mate Sam bought the company! It has Porsche 2.2ltr engine and transaxle, disc brakes all round, and pop up headlights

The car on the right is my Nova seen here at Stoneleigh in 1985

My 1st car... is...

L1020308.jpg

Yep my 1st car at the grand age of 42 is my Lotus, I had a phobia and was unable to drive a car until now. It took many years just to be able to start the car let alone drive it. Well once I got passed all the fear it became the opposite now I love driving more than anything I have ever done. Beats sky diving from 17,000 feet and snowboarding and so on and so on. I have done some pretty amazing things in my time but none has ever gave the the feel & rush of being behind the wheel of my Lotus.

My first car was 1973 Escort 1300 Sport. I bought it when I got my licence in 1976, so the car was only three years old. I don't have pics about that car.

It was light yellow with black rear.

My first car was a 1.1L White Ford Escort. F516TDU. This was a brand new car. (Company Car actually) Can remember thinking (then anyway) how cool it was being seen driving a new motor at the age of 19. That was back when a Company car actually was a 'perk' and not the Tax burden of todays working enviroment.

First car I actually paid for myself was also my old n/a Esprit
