I'm in a village with a local exchange, I think my upload's something like 6.7 download and shamefully slow upload.

I recently got a circular about satellite that promises to be 18 on the download and 6+ upload. Prices aren't too shabby either and I"m seriously thinking of giving it a try.... is anyone using a satellite service?

Doesn't the Sat service still have to use the same land line to provide an internet service though?

Apparently it's been at 100mb for months but I didn't know. I had 50mb and my router kept bombing out, so I finally rebooted the virgin modem and the speed doubled! The modem was trying to tell me something...

Tried getting Infinity this week. Been available from our exchange since March. No end of calls and fliers about it but I have always been away too much to commit to being around. So call them and they tell me not available despite half my neighbours having it and it being advertised on my bill every month!! Seems we have sold out of available lines for it! Will have to wait for more space to become available - sometime! So the early birds did get the worms.......

Living on a farm we've only been getting 2.5mb for the last year with BTinternet @ £25/month. Just switched to Sky, 6 months free then £7/month thereafter and we're getting 4mb already! Both unlimited accounts. Go figure!!

You guys are so spoilt ! Here I have the top setup you can get from the parastatal telecom company ....no one else can get higher as the said company own the hardware .

I am guaranteed 1mb/s but up to 4 if I am lucky but remember I pay top money for this !

What does the ping do? Always wondered.

Latency, kinda thing eg how quickly external computers respond to your computers request. Under 30ms is good, longer means you click 'n wait. It's also important for online gaming too, the lower the better.

35 down and 31 up 10 ms ping here in Maryland using FIOS (fiber) by Verizon.
