He was offered an Esprit by Lotus at a wonderful 10% off, which he politely declined! He said he begun to hate the car as it was unreliable due to it spending most of it's time ticking over waiting to film a scene and over heating!

I went today to the Bond Show (or better saying: bond museum) many of the gadgets of Q where at that museum (kusthal @ rotterdam) and also the orginal little shells of the lotus esprit S1.

many orginal drawings, of the scene, and i have seen one big picture of bond on the esprit (never seen before)

i also have seen the golden gun, and many really many clothes out of the films, from Dr NO to the last movie and everything between, it was a great day, and there where also many people,

the show is still there untill somewhere into Feb. 2015...

I went through this after stumbling across it hoping there would be a Turbo but sadly no Lotus (or Carole Bouquet!) footage - but interesting all the same for all you FYEO fans - Footage of the film Premiere plus interviews in London... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=630lmT9QctI

My old mate Paul went to see the film on its release and his abiding memory was the whole cinema audience 'Wowing!' when the White Turbo came in to view on that Corfu road............

I will look forward to having a look at that this year.

I know there were a few cars in the movie and they may have had some mode over the years but in the movie the cars had Lotus in text on the bonnet rather than the Lotus badge.

Roof ariel looks to be a later addition too.

How likely is it that S1 was a SWLM road car? Wasn't there just one screen car, retained by Lotus, then Cars of the Stars now Dezer. The mythical 2nd car was the camera car, which was then punted on by the factory. IIRC some German collector paid handsomely for a car which purported to be the 2nd car but was then proved otherwise by factory records?

Methinks if this car was genuine it would be on it's way to a fancy auction block pretty sharpish!

When I was researching the history of MPW71V back in the early 90s I was in regular contact with Patrick Peal (Lotus Cars) who in turn contacted Don Mac ex Lotus Cars who was responsible for product placing the Esprit in the Bond film.

At the time I was told there were 2 cars used for filming (1was a spare) however 1 car was extensively damaged as the crew used to amuse themselves by driving the 2 Esprits accross a set of crossroads fooling the locals at how fast the Esprit was as there was a well know figure of eight circuit with the crossroads at the center. Imagine that the Esprit passes at speed one way vanishes out of sight seconds later it passses the opposite direction having seemingly covered a sizable distance in seconds. :w00t:. The alleged fate of 1 of the cars was that it received substantial front quarter damage and was U/S it was suggested they might of used its remains to launch off the pier filming the undamaged side. None of this info is confirmed just a story I was told at the time while I was enquiring about the Copper Fire Bond cars.

Well spotted!!

I am guessing your new car looks exactly like the adverts in 1982 "Exclusivity comes as Standard" superb!!

Great news on yours Mike and I look forward to seeing some photos when you take delivery - a rare beast the HC, especially in Calypso Red. I thought it would have to be special to want to get rid of the Gold S2 - it was a beauty!!

As for me........I'm had to be more patient than I've ever had to be for any car purchase but I'm told the waiting will be over in the Spring or thereabouts so unless something goes badly wrong then that's when it will be. And yes it's the same as the one in my Avatar photo which is the picture of the Turbo Esprit featured in Fast Lane Magazine that started it all for me so many years ago. This waiting is driving me mental........

Interesting, so would that have been the camera car or a third vehicle? Roger Becker could confirm this for sure.

Sure I read somewhere the pier "car" was another of the empty shells as it had to have a tube inserted full length for the air cannon, and didn't survive the explosion (some of the flying bits are the car!)
