What are the essentials ?

Recommended Posts

In the winter time you are told to make sure you have a snow shovel, something to drink and some chocolate in case you get stuck in the snow.

I have only had my GT3 (1999) for a few weeks. I have been reading much on the forums about reliability/lack of.

My question is, What are the essentials to bring with you when going out ?

Should I put a tow bar on the back so I can bring all my tools ?

...or is it just a mobile with the tow truck number.

I have CDO, it's like OCD but all the letters are in alphabetical order, AS THEY SHOULD BE !

Sparky! He has fixed more Esprit's at the roadside than most breakdown companies :unworthy:

Seriously though as Bibs mentioned GT3's are very reliable and as long as you keep up the maintenance you should be fine :)

My S4 hasn't given me any reliability problems and it's going on 17 years old now. As said above. Don't shirk on maintenance and you'll be fine.

Cable ties. They'll fix anything. :-)

I tend to keep some diluted coolant, and a length of fuel hose and clips incase heaven forbid one of the plastic fuel lines cracks or anything...obviously youd need to notice this before driving! Zip ties essential to secure any loose items...other than that as mentioned these cars can be super reliable, so long as they are meticulously maintained correctly. Do things before they break, replace instead of repair!

Just my breakdown card and some mobile numbers of the spanner experts on here. My GT3 has been reliable and as said above, service it fully and get any minor wear and tear things fixed straight away. I also believe in driving it regularly helps rather than being a garage show piece

And a pair of these so you'll be sure someone will stop to help when you are buried in the engine bay. :hrhr:

Many thanks for that.

I am making up my 'tool kit' as I go along. So far I have..

1. Cable ties

2. Hose

3. Coolant

4. Skimpy shorts (already got)

5. Sparky

6. Sunglasses

Fantastic, I'll get going then !

Good to hear the later models are reliable.

Triple A card (I think that's what you call it over there?)

Consider a puncture scenario if you haven't got a spare (GT3s did without). If you are happy with tyre weld that's OK. I'm not so invested in a spare/jack/extended wheel bolts. And check your flimsy jacking plates haven't rusted off, I had one left!. I'm remaking mine from aluminium sheet

In the garage no-one can hear you scream
