(the front speakers are 100mm in diameter aren't they? I checked on the near side and I would say that 130mm would almost fit, but ...)

New binnacles aren't available, it think it was NOS, no idea where it came from, though.

We finished off the wiring for the new heater solenoid, and a big thanks to @swindon_alan for his tracking skills in locating a suitable on/off switch. A wrap of insulating tape, was sufficient to pack out the spindle, I tapped the knob pin hole out to M4, and used a cone-point M4 grub-screw to lock it. I had to use a larger diameter washer to fit it to the fascia, as the switch thread was smaller than the original, but it's all lined up perfectly! I won't know whether it's been successful until I drive the car, but it's not leaking, so that's a start.

The beast that is known as the binnacle cover proved difficult, but we got there. When I bought the car, the cover was not secured in any way, so it's nice to finally have one that doesn't move around when I'm driving.

The engine trim panels are still waiting to be resprayed before we can fit the new carpet to them, and get them installed, but that's out of my hands right now. The interior is finished, and just needs a good clean, which is of course not my part of the ship........

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm not sure it's as good as the factory finish, but believe me when I say there's no way we could have done any better. We tried to make it as professional-looking as possible at every step of the way. Now this year's project is pretty much complete, I'll have to take Shan shopping for all the hard work she's put in, and try to find her something else to do to stop her gettting bored.

Had a good run today, there's an annoying squeak or chafing noise from the engine compartment that I'll have to investigate. That aside, everything works, the car runs well, and we did a run of maybe 50'miles. I'll have a another check underneath to make sure everything is properly secured, and get on to finding out what the poxy noise is.

Also, the the blower is so much better after @Sparkynoticed the diverter was disconnected. I might actually buy him a drink.

The refurb thread will be closing for the summer, as the car is now back on the road, however I will post anything I think might be of interest.

 

Going back to the Bosch 69218 fuel pump which I fitted on page 29 of the thread, I am now able to confirm that it performs as it should. I cannot feel any hesitation, surging, or loss of power. I haven't done a Freescan or Espritmon log, but right now, it's running very well indeed, and not giving me any cause to worry.
