Evora market watch, for discussion and to help those searching!

Really getting fed up with people posting negativity on a forum about a particular car , then buying one and still moaning about what they are worth . As with all things in life things are worth what people are prepared to pay , wether you like it or not the S1 has ceased production so numbers can only go one way .... down ... thus becoming more exclusive causing prices to go up . Look at the prices of S1 Elise's now they are rocketing . Gee if you can't say anything nice pls keep your opinions to yourself...... sorry rant over , red wine opened , going to stare at my fast appreciating asset in the garage

Edited for accuracy. ;)

No black pack and has leather seats with the red piping, rather than the alcantara that I think the sports racers got? Other than that, I think it has everything, apart from folding mirrors (which I was going to do, but have never found the time)!

The SRs have a perception of being worth more but as we've recently established on this thread, some buyers/owners would prefer a non-black pack car to an SR car.

Silverstone Lotus seem to be quite good for SOR. Maybe give them a call and ask how much they think that they can get for your car?

Changing the tone somewhat, I've got the cash waiting for a 2011/12 S but I've been refreshing PH and Autotrader what seems like every 5 minutes for the past month or two. They seem to be like the proverbial rocking horse droppings at the moment!

Do you guys reckon there will be an influx after the summer? I know that's what's said about the Elise, so I guess it might apply here???

No. The Evora is more of an all year car, and I don't expect there'll be a big change until Lotus do a convertible or targa top version. There are some owners who think they'll shift cars for that, but haven't bitten with the 400 or 410 yet. Sorry, but keep hitting the refresh button.

Have you tapped up all of the prospective Lotus dealers and given them the details of what you are after? Lots of cars (particularly trade-ins from buyers upgrading to 400/410s) never make it onto the open market because there is a list of buyers already ready and waiting.

This evora got sold for 30k quite quickly

https://hexagonclassics.com/cars/lotus-evora-3-5-vvt-i-v6-2-2-coupe-2010/

After long hesitations, I have gone for a 400 which is a lot more money but also much more car in my opinion. Looking at what happened with the esprit, the better cars did keep their relative higher value (see the S4s for example).

Early Evora are good enough value that I don't see it losing too much before it starts to go back up in 10 years time.  I think the Evora 400 will worth a lot more than the S in 20 years time as it is a better looking more practical faster car. Obviously an Evora 600 would not be great for the evora 400 value... :-)

I've been offered 25% more than I paid for mine 12 months ago, they're certainly heading north!

Don't forget our classifieds, some cars only appear on there!

As said, it worth telling a dealer local to you what you're after. A decent percentage of cars are sold before being advertised :)

@Danelaw you forgot to add to your list that +2's are common and ten a pound! :)

I agree @Neal H we are all a tad biased towards the version we own. I guess that is only natural. However, the one thing I am sure we can all agree on this that in any guise, the Evora is a great car.

I do get fed up though with the constant bias re "only by an SR" or only buy a "MY12 or later car" as to be honest that is largely tosh as whether the car is now 7 years old or "only" 4/5 years old, all potentially had niggles (the nature of being handbuilt by humans) yet by now all of the niggles will have been ironed out and resolved on all but the poorest of cars.  For what it is worth I have seen LE/2010/2011 cars with Oyster interiors that look better, in terms of condition, than 2012 SR interiors in black!  The SR seats (which I have a pair of) seem to be more prone to creasing of the leather than the first iteration of the Recaro's that can be prone to wear on the bolster. It's swings and roundabouts to be honest but as long as you look after the bolsters I actually think the first generation seats wear better overall in terms of looks.

My NA was non premium pack so the sills are covered in a very hard wearing and easy to clean cloth with a leather "scuff" pad and these often look in far better condition than the MY12 all leather sills for obvious reasons.

So in my, trying to be unbiased, opinion, MY12 or not, the ONLY consideration you should first have is the condition of the car - has it been properly maintained and loved.  Then you look at the colour and spec.  Mileage is not as much of a worry as the engines and gearboxes are not stressed in NA or S modes really.  On the road, the difference in NA and S performance is negligible. The difference between NA and 400 performance is large though and we should accept that fact readily.

I still prefer the S1 interior's dash. The 400 is a little too plasticky for me. But that is not to say at all that the 400 is not a fantastic car.  It is.

So, as we have said before. Buy on condition first. I was in at my local specialist yesterday who is looking for cars for several new prospective owners, he has two who specifically want a red Evora. The demand is there and whilst the supply remains low I do believe the prices will hold firm.  My car has just ticked over 23k miles, not bad for a 2010 car, and to be honest it just about feels run in now!

Good luck to anyone looking. Happy smiles with the miles to those who are already there, whether an NA, S, SR, 400 or 410!

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

I deliberately avoided the +0/+2 discussion as that just gets too emotionally charged...

My car has the 20&19" alloys and whilst I love the looks, I sometimes wonder if the 19&18" combination might be more practical on the road. All of these things have advantages and disadvantages.

Completely agree on the S1 dash @C8RKH- I love it, and swathes of leather. I had a cursory look at the P-car competition at a show on Sunday and they all looked like nice plastic, but plastic like my grey Audi. For me the S1 dash is superb. Yes it could be better in some ways, but I can criticise any car dash so they can all be better.

Went to buy a car today but sadly when got there found virtually every panel had small scratches and scuffs on them. Perhaps I'm being too fussy but on a car with 24k miles I couldn't go ahead, especially after the dealer wasn't willing to move a penny on price for what I felt was a fairly premium price.

Its only the third Evora I've driven, but on the first two I don't remember a particularly heavy clutch.  This car though the clutch felt very heavy. Is that "normal" for an Evora?

From offline discussions, heavy clutch (at least heavier than other ones you've tried) is likely indication that a new clutch is needed.

Cost, well from my local indie, its £2k for an Evora OEM.

Out of interest @Alastair, which was the one you looked at? Feel free to PM if you'd prefer.

Don't want to highlight the particular car, as I have no issue with the dealer and maybe I'll be able to do a deal with them on another car.

Apart from the heavy clutch which anyone else could make up their mind about when test driving, I thought the car was great - exactly what I wanted. It just had way too many marks on the paintwork for me at that price.

Hi All. I'm still trying to find a S1 Evora to buy - not many about!  I'm split between going for a car at the lower end of the market, where I believe depreciation will be negligible, or to go to the top end where mileage will be very low and thus perhaps no horrible maintenance bills (like a clutch) to worry about.

Do Sports Racers command a premium over a normal car that has a three kits on it?  Also how much difference in price would be reasonable between a NA and a S car?

SR tend to be more expensive than other cars of same age because they have all the packs. Non SR cars tend to have fewer packs as if they were fully specced then they were quite a chunk more expensive (so the SR made financial sense). However, if you can find a car the same age that has all the packs then they will be worth as much, arguably more as some people prefer the fit and finish and they will be rare. I suspect that they are few and far between though - given the price difference.

N/A to S. Uplift probably £3K on older cars and £5/6 on the newer cars.

Blessed with the competence to be a slave to the incapable.

Currently without a Lotus, Evora 400 Hethel Edition in Racing Green with Red leather and 2010 Evora N/A in Laser Blue and 1983 Lotus Excel LC Narrow body in Ice Blue all sadly gone.

Towards the end of the S1 run you could pick up a car with all the packs for roughly the same cost as an SR but they tended to be special orders and thus a lot more rare.

I'd advise caution on the "lower mileage means lower bills" narrative as these cars like to be used and arguably a slightly higher annual mileage means every run tends to be longer and the car has less wear on the key components.  I certainly wouldn't pay a massive premium for a low mileage early car personally.  Early component failure aside, clutch life is dependant on how it's driven so it's not a given that a low mileage car won't cause issues there.

However worst case it's £2k fitted and you then have an easier time reselling the car - it's not the massive issue it's painted out to be given the depreciation is so low with the cars.   I've owner my April '10 NA for 3 years and 20k miles (taking it over 50k) and clutch aside running costs have been negligible when you consider the performance and drive.

I specifically wanted a manual supercharged SR. Have had it abouta year now, but it took about 5months of active looking for one to appear in one of my preferred colours. Good luck finding what you want.

You hit the nail on the head when you said it took you 5 months to find your car. I'm getting impatient and thus contemplating what compromises I might make.

So a newish S1 Sports Racer with less than 10k miles on it. What would be typical prices for a S and a NA? Nothing advertised currently to make this easy to benchmark against
