You lot aren't helping!!!

I'm 'stuck' with my car and it's a massive exercise in patience to not simply palm it off as a PX as opposed to a private sale. I want to get into an Evora!!

My n/a, s and gte were all impulse buys so I managed to avoid the torture of a protracted hunt for the right spec car!

Is that rarity a good thing or is it no-one will buy one

@Alastair, it's a definitely a double edged sword.

On the positive side: it means those in the know will go for the car and they're unlikely to dick around as they know what they're looking at. I also like the rarity factor (here I am considering the move back to Lotus which is hardly a high volume producer).

On the negative side: there are people who think I'm trying to sell a diesel rep-mobile for massive money as they don't know what I'm selling. There's also the limited market of people who want essentially a Japanese muscle car. Those people will naturally look at e9x M3's, or C63's first before realising the ISF exists. And I'm not even going to get into the pro's and cons of those three cars relative to each other.

I've had people make enquiries and offers, but so far they've all come to nothing. Doesn't help that the 'value' given to the car by AT and probably Glasses is massively out of kilter with the market place. My car is listed at £19k, I've been offered £15k as PX. I'm not prepared to go with that. My car is the cheapest facelift car (i.e. 2010) on AT and is comparable to a dealer car without the warranty, which can be easily got as I have full Lexus Service History. I'm also providing an aftermarket exhaust and a set of winter tyres to private buyers if they want them.

Given the car was only available from 2007 - 2013, the cheapest car on AT is £14,995, the most expensive is £35,500. I mean what the hell..

Rick, I would honestly stick it on Pistonheads you tend to get more petrol heads over there. Do they have an owners club/forum if so stick it on there as well.

I dont think i have ever managed to sell a decent car through AT unfortunately the market for big engined cars is small as i found when I sold my E63 and to be honest I lost my arse on it but it had to go so i took the pain.  Just my thoughts.

Please also Keep in mind that - no matter which MY - you will have to deal with some niggles. In case the car is driven some miles, saying 10.000 - 20.000, in my view the Chance is higher that the former owner has taken care to sort the minor Points out (like wiper Motor, leather on dash, sqeaking parts of int.) Also you should take care if all "call backs" by the factory have been done, ecu Software is the newest etc. - all this things should be checked carefully

Evoras are curious things.

Back in the day they were nailed to the showroom floor, indeed it seems that hardly any NAs were sold after the S came out.....but then when the NA was being discontinued there was a fight in some showrooms for the last of the run out models.  As it's such a niche purchase anyway i think the rarity value of a niche within a niche works well as the consumers are already "well educated" in the models and have done their research.  Your worst case on a rare sub-model or a strange combination of options on an evora is that it takes while longer to sell..........but looked after cars cars will always sell.   My best mate bought a grey +0 with a jobby brown interior so everything can sell eventually :D  Similarly cocopops paid for a yellow one so they will all sell eventually. (maybe not the Naomi for Haiti one though)

Contrast that to the ISF problem where it's just not on some people's radars in the same way that a C63 or an M3 is.    That's a harder sell as people haven't even considered the car in the first place.

Done.

The car is on PH, AT, eBay and Motors.co.uk

A balance of enquiries from PH, AT and eBay. Only reason Motors is there is a guy who is interested has his car for sale there and I thought I'd give it a go (and it's free). I might even stump up membership for Lexus Owners Club for the year just so I can advertise my car there.

When I sold my isf I had more interest from auto trader than ph by a long way by would advertise it on both. Easy to say as I get PH adverts free ?

You hit the nail on the head when you said it took you 5 months to find your car. I'm getting impatient and thus contemplating what compromises I might make.

So a newish S1 Sports Racer with less than 10k miles on it. What would be typical prices for a S and a NA? Nothing advertised currently to make this easy to benchmark against

Have you looked at the red s1 up for 43k?

Likewise on the PH adverts. However, I've had a couple of interested notes from Lexus Forum people via eBay, which was interesting. I may investigate the Forum paid membership to get an ad up as it's so specialist. That being said, I'm sure everyone on that forum has seen my ads anyway, so maybe I won't gain anything / anyone.

"Red S1 for £43k" - I'm guessing you mean the Oakmere car.

Had it been in better condition I'd have bought it, and they weren't willing to budge a penny on price despite its condition!

The ISF is a great car, having owned one for 5 years,  It maybe because buyers are looking for PEX, which can't be achieved through a private sale.  I sold mine into the Trade (through a contact) in the end, as buyers were few and far between, just because as you say, many haven't heard about them.

Condition? Did wonder why it hasn't sold yet.

@Harey, any possibility your 'contact' is still around and could be interested in another ISF?

Condition - paintwork and I was concerned about the clutch

If I was considering a launch or press car, is there any essential work that I should check to make sure has been done e.g. Changes to gear linkage etc which I've heard was significantly improved for MY12?

I see those guys at Oakmere also have a nice orange 400 with 6000 miles for 60k, wouldn't that be better value than the red one anyway? Just tell your wife you went with the reasonable choice, i.e. The car with the better value proposition, easier door to get in and a bit more space at the back.

There are cheaper 400s out there. However I started by looking at £30k NA cars, then got seduced by newer S cars and then started to get really carried away and thought about 50/50 deals on new 400s.  Trying to get my feet back on the ground now and trying to decide whether to stick with original plan of a 2009/10 £30k NA, or whether it's worth the extra £10k or so for a low mileage 2014 S or NA.

if only there were enough cars around to pick the exact thing you wanted - but sadly lack of supply means it's about compromising to get the best combination of age/colour/mileage/spec/condition I can

I must have been lucky with my find.  Looked at a few around the £30k mark, wanted all packs, wasn't too worried about mileage, more concerned about condition and history.  I wanted premium pack, but didn't get it.  ½ the tech pack was installed so that wasn't bad and an upgraded MY2012 Pioneer unit was in place.  The CR box and Forged Alloys were a bonus.  Deal done and dusted and collected within a week.

I would worry about the clutch on a 20k mileage car. I believe there are folk with 50k + miles with no clutch issues. Poor paint is fair enough but if just swirls can be sorted with a paint correction detail.

That cars an ex demo c24k miles S SR red paint. The clutch was very heavy which made me worry but that wouldn't have stopped me buying - I'd just have looked into it more first.

On the test drive at one point I was being told I was being let out in it myself because they were short staffed then after a delay he came with me but he drove the car for the first half of the test drive on a route I thought was incredibly poor - no opportunity to accelerate hard - and again it just made me feel more uneasy and made me concentrate on looking for the issue I was left with the feeling that he was trying to hide

The paintwork was the killer - a few stone chips would be no surprise but there were small scratches on most panels especially bad around the fuel flap, the back bumper had been resprayed yet there was still new scuff marks from contact, and a badly repaired section on the corner of the rear wing, plenty other panels had scuffs on them to, and when I got there they were using some serious polish to the roof which afterwards still had a few small scratches but did also make me wonder what they were trying to hide.

It all just smacked of a car that hadn't been loved. Had they moved on price I'd still have maybe gone ahead and looked at a complete respray but I'm now glad they wouldn't move as I think I'd have ended up regretting not folllowing my gut instinct.

Have had good experiences with every other dealer I've dealt with so far but left that visit very unimpressed.

Would or wouldn't?

It's a daft thing to say in the month of May, but with it being 'peak' season, cars will be limited with current owners enjoying them, so prices high and limited choice, selling quickly.

I purchased in December, and had a pick of cars. However don't expect prices to be cheaper; as nobody was willing for a deal, knowing the summer months would return a demand.
