  1. I used to work for a well-known British DIY fixings and tool manufacturer in the mid 1990s. We spent a lot of time and energy on the packaging. Really good artwork and crucially market leading in recyclability. The Purchasing Departments of the big DIY Chains loved it, but it took decades for our competitors to follow suit. How many times do you still see small products hanging on a shop shelf peg in 100% plastic bubble packaging? It’s so unnecessary.
  2. The Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere featuring Liz Hurley in “That Dress” was 30 years ago this week. She’s 58 now and still looks like 20-something.
  3. OK thanks for the info. I spoke to one of the Rimstock Directors at Lotus 70 about producing a new batch and he seemed interested, but I then followed up by e-Mail and he never replied. Anyway, just need to keep out of the pot holes! As far as I know, they’re just standard Evora fitment 19” and 20” wheels aren’t they, so there must be other set options if all else fails? That owner on the Emira sub-forum got some lovely ones made in China.
  4. Wishbones can be fabricated. I had a Renault 5 Turbo 2 for many years. The bespoke rear wishbones were known to succumb to corrosion, so a guy in Accrington arranged to have some new ones made complete with bushes and I bought a set of those when the time came. Front bumper can probably still be ordered from Mansory, or maybe a replica supplier. Wheels are from Rimstock: they might not want to make another batch, but there are other supply options for different designs if necessary. My point is it’s highly unlikely I will ever need any of these items in my ownership, so why worry about them? The rest of the oily bits are just Evora S. If the worst should happen and my GTE is destroyed or stolen, then it will be an insurance pay out just like any other car.
  5. It does annoy me how many posters on Pistonheads for example immediately pipe up with something along the lines of “good luck getting spare parts for that” whenever an older car is featured. If that was the case, there would hardly be any old cars on the road! Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
  6. Yes but none of that has wiped out an entire “species” of car, has it? Plenty of doom mongers out there.
  7. I have never heard of a proper production car being made “extinct” due to unavailability of parts. There’s always a way of keeping them on the road.
  8. Yes, when I did my factory tour a few years ago, many of the cars on the production line had the wrong wheels, due to supply/stock issues.
  9. Even though I have Sky and my eldest son still watches every qualifying session and every race, I haven’t had any desire to do likewise. So five and a half races into the calendar and I still haven’t watched any F1 this season and the Championship is already a forgone conclusion. That lack of interest is coming from a lifelong fan.
  10. So what “gob-smacking” evidence does the Telegraph story reveal? Nothing?
  11. Great that it’s being done to save the planet and nothing at all to do with saving money and making us do that work for them. I must have missed the bit about them reducing the MOT fee accordingly…
  12. Being a classic car fan, this was one of my favourite TV ads when I was an impressionable teenager. Jaguar XK140 and a broken fan belt.
  13. Looks like the one Silverstone received back in their old place. I have mentioned it before: I think it was a cancelled order, after the prospective owner switched to a different car. They did that special photo shoot in the track car park. I think it has been for sale most of its life.
  14. They should do one with added Quorn for the die hards.
  15. Just been for a countryside drive out in my Evora. I have a favourite A to A rural route, that I have used to stretch the legs of my special cars over 18 years. By God it has deteriorated beyond all recognition in the past couple of years. I spend more time scanning the road surface for major defects than I do concentrating on the traffic ahead. Apart from the multitude of wheel smashing pot holes, there are also shocking camber changes from one side of the road to the other, as if entire sections of road have been subject to subsidence. Never an issue before, so why now? It’s not even a flood prone area. I laughed out loud when I saw that the council had tried to “solve” the problem by applying a new thin strip of tarmac to try and glue back together a section of road that had literally split longitudinally into two completely different elevations, maybe 8 inches apart. Any low slung sports car driver would be flung into the ditch if his car straddled that section of road and bottomed out. Oh and one other new annoyance. They have now introduced 40mph zones about 1/3 mile from the start of each village’s existing 30mph zone. So you’ve now got loads of new 40mph zones in the middle of the countryside where no-one lives or walks. Why is that necessary? Everyone knows you need to drop your speed down to max. 30mph when you reach the old signs. Why not go the whole hog and add an extra 50mph zone even further out?
  16. Interview with the original owner of the infamous stolen Lotus Carlton 40 RA.
  17. No problem: nor could I with the Search function, but I knew I had started one, so had to dig it out manually.
  18. Mods: maybe merge the new Neighbours thread with this existing one?
  19. Yes those 1700 UK deaths per year are not necessarily attributed to speeding, so even less reason to get technology involved.
  20. Here in the UK, road traffic accidents account for about 1700 deaths per year. That figure has remained fairly stable for years (ignoring a drop during the COVID period). We have a population of 67.3 million, so you have a 0.00002526 chance of being killed in an RTA each year. Is that really such a threat to humanity?
  21. If you want a quick ‘Ring time, get an Evija X.
  22. Looks to me like the suspension has collapsed all round. Maybe that’s why it’s so cheap?
