  1. On the topic of air fresheners ... I've tried various "new car smell" sprays etc that will hide a musty smell (not in the Evora, I hasten to add), and the best rear-mirror-dangly airfresheners I came across were from a company called Roadscents Luxury Car Fragrance, who never seem to have anything in stock... handy if you have a smelly old car that you're trying to get the "damp old lady" smell from...
  2. thanks guys - A light hoover, a bit of dusting and an occasional wipe with a damp cloth sounds like all I should really worry about then.
  3. I bought my Evora nearly 7 years ago from a dealer and even though it was about 15 months old with 6k miles, it had quite a new car smell... I asked the dealer a couple of times what they used to prepare it for sale but got nothing back... With leather upholstery cars, I'd typically use leather cleaner and conditioner which restores a nice rich smell to the interior, but the Evora is the first alcantara interior I've had; what does everyone else use to keep the upholstery fresh, and is there anything you use to retain/restore that new car aroma...?
  4. I think pretty much all car brands are facing similar issues as in car tech gets more complex; they just don't seem to be able to figure stuff out in the right way. I have a Volvo XC60 hybrid and numerous issues developed with the smartphone app working with the car. As a techie with a career in IT, I figured it must be a problem on their back end and, even with no real knowledge of how they configure things, I ended up having to tell the main tech guy in the dealer, step by step, what to do to reset the car's association with me and my ID... Also, @Pdunny - your may be within your rights to reject the car if the dealer cannot fix the 3-pin issue (Rejecting a car - your consumer rights | The Car Expert) given that it's a significant use case for you. Problem is, they will negotiate a value so you'd still take a bath vs new price, but it might be worth taking legal advice before the first 6 months is up. A strongly worded letter to the dealer principal from a consumer-rights specialist solicitor might cost you a few £hundreds but could make them believe your intent to not let it lie...
  5. PM'ed you, Dave; I'd like to find out more please 👍 I've been going for years and sometimes it's Death Valley hot and dry and others it's like monsoon season. We camp on Houx so it's not too bad usually, but I've seen some (eg Beausejour) where the whole place is a mudbath.
  6. How's the paintwork holding up on your Evora? On mine, it's very nice 😝 I was very tempted early on by the Emira's looks but thought I'd hold out and see if they could deliver fit & finish. Guess I'm pleased I waited. And yet, with baked in production issues and a singular failure to deal with the aftermath at a customer service level, how on earth is the Eletre going to compete against higher-end kit? Or the supposed Macan rival that will be the mainstay of the model range in a few years??
  7. haha - France in June, going to Le Mans, you do need aircon or it gets a bit too toasty at times 😅 I was planning on taking the Evora next year but for a variety of reasons might need to take the good ship Volvo XC60 with its air conditioned massaging seats 🤣
  8. hi all - my 2016 Evora 400's aircon is on the blink and it's in a well-known indy specialist who has diagnosed that the compressor is leaking and making a lot of noise (maybe clutch seized?) - Lotus OEM parts (eg 8832042120) could work out well north of £3K inc VAT so I'm very keen to seek alternatives. We've decided to leave it for now and revisit in the spring, which gives me the luxury of time to both figure out which bits I need, and the potential to source from overseas with a long lead time. Received wisdom on here and on SELOC TechWiki is that the replacement part is: But the OEM part has a different code (7SBU17C 447260-1019) ... so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has actually fitted a replacement A/C compressor and used either an aftermarket or a Denso RAV-4 / Camry etc model, as to: a) what one did you fit? b) was it an exact replacement? c) Has it lasted more than a few months 😊 thanks! Ewan PS. Pic for attention, stickered up for Le Mans a few years back

    Lotus Emira

By the time the v6 manual non-FE comes out, it's likely that 2016 Evora 400s will be starting from the high £30ks - low £40ks, meaning the cost to switch up to a new architecture*, better-built** and nicer-looking*** car that is otherwise fairly comparable, would be in the £40-50k bracket, probably. Then again, they'd be chopping in a 7-year old car for a brand new one. * I don't completely buy the "it's all new" argument; yes, sure, it's not the same architecture as the Evora/Exige but it's hardly light years ahead in construction or anything, is it? I mean, we're still talking bonded/extruded aluminium tub, and the engine/gearbox and steering/suspension aren't going to be all that radically different/better, are they? ** Of course, it remains to be seen if it is better-built. When watching the C4 documentary that followed the British GP, am I the only one that was wincing a little at the idea of shifting seamstresses with a lifetime of experience in stitching leather, into engine assembly... without introducing the risk of quality control problems? *** I think the Emira is a cracking-looking thing, but I'd love to see it parked next to a Evora GT410 just to see if it has really moved the game on as much as you'd think. IMHO, the blue colour (and maybe the lighting) on the Goodwood show stand made the crease that leads to the air intakes look a little less defined than in various photos. I think the Emira will be quite colour sensitive when it's on the road...
  10. I heard much the same thing from the guys at GFoS timing-wise (Sept for specs; first production prototypes will be for crash testing etc; journos won't get to try one until March; first v6 customer deliveries from April). i4 to come out 3 months later. They said deposits placed via dealers would be entered into the queue "as long as we receive them in time", along with the £2k ones they were taking online and on the stand. When the spec/prices are unveiled in Sept, then the queue of depositors will become a more firm build slot / order type thing as people confirm their choice (and some people might be put off by the price (if they decide they want the V6 FE for example, but are expecting to pay £60k), so the later news that all build slots for 2022 are sold out must be making an assumption on the number of deposits... Anyway, if there are no test drives until March or later, but the order book is full... so what?
  11. I'd be surprised if they start having test drives on what are basically pre-production cars; the GFoS guys said production between now and Feb/March would be crash test and environmental testing; journos won't get to drive until ~March 22, with first customer deliveries taking place in April. Maybe it would be a bad idea sending punters out for a "test drive" in something that's unfinished, ie in Sept. Maybe you'll get a passenger seat ride with the disclaimer that this is car #1 etc...
  12. From what they said on the FoS Stand, to do the more advanced ADAS functions like lane departure assist would require electric power steering - so in other words, Hydraulic for a couple of years until they're forced to implement ADAS then it's electric...
  13. At this rate there will be thousands of Emiras on the road in the UK, but hardly any Evoras... a future classic eh I honestly can't see them shipping the base model v6 Emira at a little over £60k; if people want to pay that, they'll buy an i4 and for maybe not much more outlay to produce each car, Lotus could easily slap a premium on the V6 manual. I wonder if there will be any visual differentiators between the two, other than the shifter in the cabin, the look through the glass and the noise that comes out the back.
  14. Well, if you listen to VBH's interview with Matt W, she asked if the plural of Lotus is Lotuses or Loti, and he said the plural is simply "Lotus".
