  1. Of course, the slotted hole, a sound solution. Must up my game after weeks away on holiday.
  2. Accessories tensioned by shifting the A/C compressor?
  3. Yes. 15 x 7 front wheels, 15 x 8 rear. Early cars with the Citroen gearbox all fitted with wheels whose offsets differ front to rear. Cheers
  4. I take John's remarks on inline 4 vibrations as true, having seen damage due to vibration at several points on an early Twincam in my Elan. A superior locking nut might be an improvement but I've seen studs on the same TC engine walk loose from the inlet manifold while Nylocs held. That was effectively remedied by use of longer studs on which a nut could be fitted at the far end beyond the flange, not something viable for our tensioner studs. Perhaps one of the more potent Loctite fluids instead?
  5. Are they not the same switches fitted through all the earliest cars?
  6. Hi Patrick, As far as I know there is no trim piece assigned to finish the apertures, just the same trim used for the entire finishing panel. You might find that careful incisions allow the fabric to be turned back into the apertures and then contact cemented in place. Others may know a better way. Cheers
  7. Both points are correct. The natural rate of dissipation would not be ideal in terms of the bearing oil, which prompts measures like timed pumps for circulation after shutdown. In earlier times manufacturers fitted coolant passages into the bearing housing in an effort to reduce coking of oil in that area. Cheers
  8. Got a picture of those brackets?
  9. Putrid. The Russian, the Donald, and the Republican Party all. Stunning how so many Americans can believe they can operate successfully in isolation. Currently travelling in New Zealand seeing a greater variety of automobiles than in any previous travels, including several smartly built Chinese brands. Truly brings to mind the reality of globalisation in ways unknown to we of the Americas in our myopic bubble.
  10. Those are the aperture through which cabin air is extracted on its way to the B pillar vents behind the doors. In your case it's clear the re-trimming work has closed them off, therefore no cabin air extraction. Cheers
  11. What a dismal lack of imagination is shown when buying into Trump's pitches for MAGA and these isolationist fantasies. This most certainly is 2024, not 1964, and China and other competitors will not be simply wished away nor cowed unduly by threat of force. While Island America ( taking my country along for the ride inevitably ) languishes in denial, China and her confederates will be all too happy to prosper while engaging worldwide. Neither Britain, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the South American states nor Europe will be positioned to counter these expansionist moves by the authoritarians without a stalwart America.
  12. Those rears are very likely Armstrong, given the colour, and quite unique dimensionally for the early Esprit. I'd approach the specialists in regard to those. The front are not as distinct, as I found when seeking mine. The vendor was highly accommodating, permitting me to rummage freely in her extensive inventory until I selected a pair which seemed adaptable. Rather a chuckle when they were ID'd as fitment for some vast '70's era American market sized saloon. Fortunately a Koni specialist was located who were equipped to revalve to Esprit spec, while updating the seal to contemporary spec. Cheers
  13. Agreed in regard to the Armstrongs, not overly chuffed with what has been reported on other brands. I was fortunate and wise to have gathered up Konis for my S2 promptly after taking ownership. Cheers
  14. Isn't it the procedure to check tank level within 2 minutes of shutting down? A dry sump system should be fairly forgiving of levels between high and low in tank if correct procedure followed. Cheers
  15. Trump is living, breathing evidence that humans can talk themselves into believing whatever they choose to, despite facts to the contrary. It is the essence of religion, and America goes all-in on that.
  16. There is a formula for calculating rate of a coil spring by way of wire diameter, coil diameter, and number of free coils. Don't have my reference materials for that to hand at the moment, surely easy to find online. Free length completes the spec if one works with a spring manufacturer as I did with great success on my Elan. Cheers

Wot? LH not going to Ferrari !!!???
  18. More specifically WD40 will serve to displace water when applied in an effective manner. We learned just how ineffective WD is in terms of water protection when a 907 crank which had been thoroughly wetted and wrapped for storage was later unwrapped revealing abundant rust. Fortunately this was superficial and readily cleaned up Cheers
  19. For the most part I agree, @C8RKH. There is a persisting narrative here in Canada to the effect that our military has been woefully neglected. Nations such as mine and those of Western Europe likely have coasted on this due to various more pressing concerns through the recent era of peace. Clearly antagonist nations are becoming some of the more pressing issues of the present, and we'd all do well to carry our share alongside America.
  20. This is one more example of things that make Trump terminally unsuited for public service. Yes, NATO's members must carry their share of the burden but it is bloody poor form to cultivate support from the most mentally ill-equipped voter by way of rash pronouncements. One may count on Trump to operate on self-serving terms in all things.
  21. The current thrust in media coverage on Canadian housing is that LESS regulation will be the answer to the egregious cost of things residential. Is that the smacking of greedy developer lips we hear? Boeing have made quite the show of handling QC during the present era protocols as set ( i.e. handed off ) by the FAA. I've heard enough accounts of builder deficiencies through my circle of acquaintances and work associates to see that regulation in construction is already very spotty. The chatter that prices will be alleviated by any public policy short of giving it away is risible.
  22. Guess your task would be to smite the large rivet a tad, daring not to oversmite as there may be no unsmite. Credit The Book of Armaments, Python, Monty author.
  23. Search Ebay for Corvette C2 or C3 replacements, as I did. It was down to worn teeth on my one side so I simply cut a replacement sector gear and stacked that onto the original. There's ample length on the motor spur gear to accommodate this.
  24. Not up to par in terms of the worst issues posted above but something for perspective on regulation, good or bad. On numerous occasions over recent years commercial lorries have struck motorway overpasses and even the ceiling surface of a tunnel under a major waterway while, believe it or not, continuing onward through while scraping the structure with over-height cargo. These strikes almost always yield damage enough to warrant shutdown of the motorway for inspection and subsequent costly repairs at taxpayer expense. Bear in mind that few are the routes serving east-west and north-south through this major seaport and city. I have read here in these threads troubling examples in the UK and Europe of regulatory overreach but in Canada we are more often troubled to learn the consequences of under regulation. In response to media inquiries seeking accountability for the motorway incidents business owners point the finger at drivers and plead for government to take charge of training. This is laughably out of step with longstanding postures from the corporate side on regulation in all forms. Note that some of the offending firms have been responsible for repeated incidents over the past 1 - 2 years. Pitiful. https://vancouversun.com/feature/why-trucks-keep-hitting-bc-overpasses
