  1. As Roland remarks there are 4 screws by which the header rail is attached to the batten in S2 with the integral clock housing. The rail should be trimmed with fabric glued on, thereby simplifying its installation. I chose to bond the batten to roof rather than have screws pierce the shell. On assembly sequence I've just lately been going through the first steps of the process, determining the following order: 1 - Wiper unit 2 - Cowl plenum and drain 3 - Pedal box assembly 4 - HVAC lump, loosely as the A/C kit is bulky 5 - Scuttle beam, which in my case requires a bit of light argy bargy of the HVAC. No quarrels with any points made above, and I suppose it best to place any sound dampening in footwells and floor as the first step in any case, carpet perhaps right after. I'd place the dash loom section following placement of the scuttle beam, before the lower dash install.
  2. Sunday confession again, despite terminal apostasy. Spending time readying bits for packing off into storage, casting about in other threads for thoughts on my wiper drive noise, while today checking the HVAC unit readiness and finding it not quite there. I've adapted a '90's era Honda spec water control valve, among other things, to a later casing/controls unit from a wrecked '95 and it's been a series of in/out exercises for the HVAC, scuttle beam, binnacle and control lever unit getting the heater and vent controls sorted. So it's a blessing that the trimmer did not pivot around quickly for the instruments binnacle, less aggrieved that I'm grappling with the untrimmed GRP. Cheers
  3. What very limited miles I've covered in Esprit notwithstanding, the gear change is recalled most favourably. P911 by comparison feel just like waving a stick around in a tub of rubber, the Stevens cars somewhere nearer the GG cars though not as good. I chose to opt for SJ's crossgate cable upgrade, confident I'll be amply pleased when that combines with all new bushes in the fore-aft linkage. Cheers
  4. Shout out to @JonSE for this comprehensive chronicle, as it's a treasure trove of details on S2 bits and their assembly. Fortifies my own resolve! 👏
  5. Greetings all, here with an oddball question as to the sound your wipers make. Just packing up my electricals having tested the lot prior, concerned with sound of the wiper drive which has both the gentle eletrcical motor whir plus a light clatter from the drive to wheelbox. If by chance someone driving a GG car might care to check just what sounds emerge from theirs it would be most welcome. My renewed wheelbox and cable/rack seem perfectly matched to the originals, by the way, but I fear the locally sourced guide tube may differ in ID just enough to disturb the mesh between them. Cheers
  6. Belated welcome to Canada, Graeme! Glad you toured Vancouver Island, where our provincial capitol Victoria is located, as it's a most enjoyable bit of the country. 😉
  7. During final checks of the wiring harness prior to placing in storage while remainder of restoration work proceeds I found the wiper drive to be rather noisy. It's been freshened up with new wheelbox, cable/rack, and guide tubes. There is the expected and agreeable whirring sound from the motor but also a less pleasant clatter from the drive section. It does run smoothly, and there appears no distinction in how the original pieces mesh in comparison with the replacements. Is this something for concern or do these units normally make such noise? Cheers
  8. Good thoughts Jim, however I've got a collection of Philips marker, brake, reversing, and indicator bulbs which all use but a pair of LED's positioned about where a filament would be. The Philips headlamp bulbs appear to use 3 LED's each side of its "tower" right about the focal zone. That said, we are agreed on your point as to the importance of correct placement of the source. The auto manufacturers nowadays appear to have a free hand in afflicting the driving public with all sorts of egregious glare, leaving me to wonder whether regualtion exists at all, if local experience is indicative.
  9. Thanks for that. How are they in the wet?
  10. Time for an update? Those R888's been shaken down on the road?
  11. A tatty but remarkably complete S1 up for sale in the San Fran area of California. Described as in storage under cover/tarps for the past 30 years. Listed in the Golden Gate Lotus Club most recent newsletter. Cheers https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOqYnRexniSJWUPmk0XcPOoWKxLY5uLTAYgsRUTZnFbdTGJXSUHsxb5sT0rwpDfew/photo/AF1QipOmiLT5_2HsKo9UzA73dlovGUhSeiocOypTQrcH?key=eUdocUladFJXd2EwSHhXWHVyMkptTXp6emlCSEZn
  12. What I have gathered since this all got started is that Covid typically results in a a variety of states of illness, sometimes mild, other times cruddy but not lethal, and sometimes grave. I've known at least 2 fit adult men to have been hospitalised, one put under in coma for weeks, due to Covid. It is a potential peril and one which has killed in great numbers around the globe. Thanks to our media saturated era it does seem that people go off their nut in regard to infection prospects. Case in point, I joined another Esprit owning mate for stroll and coffee the other day and was dementedly amused at the sight of a woman driving off from her carpark with surgical gloved hands clutching the wheel, mask stuck on and windows all rolled up tight. She was alone.
  13. The Philips Ultinon X-Treme LED bulbs for H1 are listed at PowerBulbs UK as non road legal, FWIW. My local auto lighting guru has assured that Philips LED, at least, provide very good beam dispersion control when fitted as replacement bulb. On the other hand these latest halogen bulbs fitted in properly aimed 4 headlamp set as found in Esprit will certainly yield strong lighting as long as they are fed adequate power. The output of such lamps falls away markedly with reduced voltage. Cheers
  14. I'm somewhat vague on this by now as it was some time ago that I worked through. That said I suspect David @Fridge may be on the mark with regard to the headlamp lift control relays. Lord, the H/L control system is something with which to reckon.
  15. Agreed. As this evolved I found it irresistible to target loads by grouping, so forward luggage block serves pod full time (relays within), ignition switch, main beams, low beams, pod lifts, horns, electric water pump, and electric parking brake concept. As to the tunnel array we have large posts for windows, wiper unit, cabin fans, accessory loads all, etc. The black 4 terminal block seen left is for dedicated direct to battery feeds in 10GA for the ECU. Rehab beckons sublimely . . . .
  16. The electrical campaign, in this case something akin to exploring unmapped jungle thickets with no regard for either time or budget, is about to conclude. The bulk of wiring and bits have been carefully placed in 2 storage bins, the final section which spans the scuttle beam undergoing checks for fit and taping up. As requested by sympathetic TLF'ers I reluctantly here post the odd pic.
  17. My trimmer counselled against trimming the binnacle in leather, relating how F308's dash tops display recession of the leather with aging by which vent apertures become untidy. Poor bugger has therefore been tasked with getting it done in Alcantara, much more difficult to work with but with no risk of refections.
  18. I believe the underlying wisdom in the OEM colour is that it minimizes distracting reflection back to the driver off the screen. Cheers
  19. Tip of the hat to @Fridge for the advice on overhead trims. I've collected a gallery of Esprit pics over the years, one of which nicely illustrating how the trims serve to frame the "ceiling". In fact it would be jarring to trim the side edge pieces in other than Alcantara as both nearby areas, firewall cover and windscreen finisher, are so trimmed. Thanks indeed
  20. Headlining for mine will be original as well. I've no need of throwing Alcantara up onto the roof but the A-pillars appear better integrated trimmed in fabric matching the dash and doors. The headlining fabric will be applied also to the 2 trims which cover the side edges above the door windows, better integrated than contrasting. Cheers
  21. The public should have benefit of useful education in any decent society, it was by way of that I came to fully grasp the imperative of seatbelts. On the other hand sloppy government is what we can thank for much of the current day automotive annoyances. Not so very long ago one did not dare to run other than feeble incandescent headlamps in many parts of America for fear of sanction in using superior halogens. That was government indifference combined with cronyism. Nowadays the automakers clearly have latitude to slam our retinas with whatever the f&*k they think will add to the bottom line, and thus the public is again done a disservice. The infernal nagging of these audible alerts is well beyond what's needed but corporate Karens , abiding absolutely no risk of liability, will heap as much of the crap onto us as they can figure how to. As this process unfolds it's a pitiful truth to say that the outcome is sure to be an ever dumber Joe Average, not wiser but certainly more detached from a grating reality.
  22. In regard to seatbelts warning, if one is by now too ignorant and/or careless to buckle up then society has perhaps failed in educating on the necessity of belts. With restoration of my S2 I have chosen to tap off the "start" circuit for that lamp, too much fussing required to recommission that to Federal spec but sufficient to serve as reminder. Can't imagine anyone I know ever failing to buckle up as we're a nicely aged lot.
  23. It's all too clear this is about intolerance for any measure of disorder and therefore the hallmark of Fascism. I expect others here will find no reason to quarrel on this, given the marked ascent of would-be dictators around the globe. We'd all do far better if such dedication were directed at those aspects of societies that bring misery to the species year-in and out. From some point pre-Covid through to now our highway patrols and city police alike have buggered off greatly on speed traps and, Lo, there has been no upswing in carnage. Imagine that. Note too that we have very few speed cameras anywhere, nearly none. Fact is the average Joe will drive at a velocity with which they feel comfortable, as has been established through research on driving behaviour. Police resources are consequently better directed at gang issues, a real menace to the public at large.
  24. Page 2, for A-pillar in Alcantara. Nice stuff but rather a bear to work with over curved surfaces, as I'm told.
