Ouch! Fast Fords pretty good....Lotus Cortina, rear wheel Escorts, Focus ST and RS, Ford GT. Gotta say, I wouldn't be without a 1.6 Focus estate, a brilliant workhorse, I buy at 10 years old and run for 5+years of serious work, usually sell for 50% depreciation after 50,000 more miles. Servicing is cheap and they don't break. Nice drive too.

I get your other points.

Justin

walking around my local Tesco’s

When we go shopping, looking at the cars is the best bit......Trying to decide on each visit which car I would prefer (no Fords though...)     Looking out for old friends  like MGs, Jeeps and older classic UK cars..

Did see the latest Peugeot 208 looked a lot more interesting than the previous when I saw one a few weeks ago.

If you want a proper old fashioned car show come to Thirlestane Castle in June for the biggest car show in Scotland. It has over 1500 exhibits and this year's guest of honour is one of Scotland's finest ex F1 drivers, Sir Jackie Stewart. It is expected that Dario Franchitti and David Coulthard will also be present

Photo from a few years ago  https://images.app.goo.gl/scqSkUv3VBwnm9f96  My yellow M100 can be spotted top left in the celebration of 50 years of British Classics. It was parked next to a yellow TVR Griff. which had "issues" on the drive to the event 😄

It's no doubt a bit far for you to come from Devon but I guarantee you won't be bored by a load of old Ford's and repmobiles

I’ve given up on all of the local classic car shows, primarily for the reasons stated above. What started out as nice little classic car shows have morphed into massive free-for-alls for any car of any age, often influenced by the desire to make as much money out of the punters as possible.

No issues at all with above, in fact I’d donate my left testicle for a Ford GT 😳

I’m talking more about your 1.1 Ecu boosts and Ka’s.

Had a few Focuses, Mondeos, Scorpios going back to Escort and Orions and yes workhorses agreed but nothing a bit exciting about them - about on par with a saucepan - ie you know what it’s designed to do and it does it every day for years.

That does look rather a good one. Yes a bit of a jaunt from Devon but hope it’s successful. 👍😁

I used have a small farm near a small village called Ashby Folville close to Melton Mowbray

every second Tuesday of month between May to September it had a lovely classic car show about 20-40 cars parked on cricket green outside only pub

it ran for several years until about 6 years ago when loads of yoofs in their Corsa and ST fords etc started to arrive to pull donuts on the main village road , eventually police closed the event and organisers didn’t want the hassle so never run again !

I rarely do big shows, we don't have many in belgium anyway. I do enjoy the small, friendly meets. A few years ago some friends started an unoffical club called 'BOYS', which stands for Bergom (the village they live in/near) Oldtimer and Youngtimer Sympathizers. They do a free and informal meeting every 3r Wednesday after work, from April to October and have organized a few runs as well. I've attended all their meetings over the years (bar a few times I had other obligations) always good fun, with a 100 or more (depending on the weather) cars, going from an old Willy Jeep over all sorts of normal cars from the 60s-70s-80s and lots of American cars (from another club nearby) up to more modern rarities with the occasional Ferrari or Aston. Lotus presence guaranteed, between myself, one of the founders with an Elise and a few other regulars with Esprits.
What I like most is the great atmosphere, made possible because it's small scale. You can see a 2CV next to a vintage Caddie, both owners having a beer and a friendly chat. Worse I've seen was a group of supped up MX5s (could technically be oldtimer at 30+ years), unnecessarily loud but still behaving themselves.
Unfortunately they've only done the one meet since Covid and I fear they might have lost momentum and will have a hard time getting back up. Rumor has it the church square they were allowed to use wont be available anymore either...

Filip

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.
