What made you UNHAPPY today!

Hi guys. NHS Knee surgeon here.

There are no age boundaries to knee replacement. Neither young nor old. But of course both may have significant considerations attached.

NHS rules are clear, if idiotic. You must have had a course of physio. This just acts as a'clock stop' - after all, irrespective of benefit or not, you have now been 'treated.'

Second, if you have a high BMI, you must have taken part in a 6 month weight loss programme. You don't have to have lost weight, just taken part in a programme.

High BMI = wherever the trust deems high. Over 35 at least. Sometimes only triggered after 40.

Thats it. For knee replacement at least. Other surgeries are less heavily regulated.

That said, I wouldn't wish a TKR on my worst enemy. They are buggers to get over. But we are getting better at that bit.

I'm happy to answer questions anyone might have, accepting the limitations of text Vs in person consultation, examination and imaging.

@slewthy very interesting & thank you, it looks as though the NHS physio boys have been negligent with their words in addition to being, imo, negligent with their treatment.

Thats all I’m going to say right now

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.
