Son-in-laws car is getting an intermittent overheating problem. I popped te thermostat housing off and it was pretty cruddy. Cleaned it up and new thermostat, radiator cap and gasket later, things seem to have settled down. Move ahead a few months. Overheating again. Check the thermostat itself. This seems ok as well.

Incidentally, each time I have looked at the car, coolant level is way down. Each time it has overheated, I haven't been with Dom and he says the engine is not making any odd sounds (ticking etc) just the fans running on the radiator.

So I have another look today. Coolant low again. No water in the oil. No bubbles into the radiator when running the engine with the cap off. All plugs look identical to each other. (may not be noticeable if one was essentially getting steam cleaned)

I can't see any leaking anywhere. Go down the back of the car though and am getting a fair amount of water coming through the exhaust. Even getting what looks like steam after revving. So I am pretty sure I am looking at a head gasket failure, so now the fun begins between getting my little Honda Civic ready to sell. Basically doing a C service on the S4 to get it ready to sell. Selling my motorbike. Travelling to Melbourne 2 days a week to go to school for my tiling business. Working 2 days per week in Geelong, but I also have to find another days work according to Centrelink or I may lose my unemployment benefit.

AND pulling Doms car apart to fix it as he doesn't have the money to get it done himself.

Sigh.

I have been kicked off a Facebook group for the first time - and for this reason.

I posted this picture on a Pre-1982 historic rally car group when they asked for items starting with E. Looks pretty historic to me! Shortly after my first ever post in the group I was banned - arses!

Having my daily driver (Audi Q3) keyed on Thursday night :(

could cry, it's the one crime against cars I simply cannot comprehend.

£1000 to put right, end to end from rear wing to front wing, inc both doors.

C#nts!!

just wish I knew a friendly paint shop that would help keep my costs down and it's not worth claiming on insurance as it will hurt me for next 5 years on both Audi and Evora.

Lee had exactly the same thing happen to my Merc a few Months back cost me the thick end of £700 so you have my sympathies. Mine was too deep for Chipsaway but got to be worth getting them round to take a look.

I still can't work out what enjoyment they get out of it as they don't know you and don't see the reaction! I genuinely think they should have their arms cut off

Totally agree, but only after their fingernails are removed with pliers one by one, spaced 5 minutes apart. Of course, the wounds would have to be cauterized as an act of mercy...a good blowtorch would suffice. Each digit on each hand would then be tested for maximum flexibility to determine the angle at which bone separation occurred...for medical research purposes of course. The arm removal process could then proceed. A blunt knife would the tool of choice.

Oh, and the key used for the car's defacement would then be inserted into the orifice of the offender's election...as a measure of good will.

Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose.

One knackered Turbo. I enquired at BMW main dealer price to replace.

£1700 and that's a 'trade' price part only, not to fit

I have replied with a very large chunk of "F### right off"

I would rather park the thing outside their entrance with a DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE sign.

scrapyards and eBay here we come.

^^ you know, even though it's an Ooodi, you have my sincerest sympathy. It is this type of crime - senseless in the extreme - that the people who commit should be publically shamed and humiliated and made outcasts from society. They should be made to wear yellow jumpsuits with the word "knob" emblazoned in black and then they should be me made to pick up litter in said jump suit for 30 hours a week for a year regardless if they had a job or not. Forget about a small fine. Or a short prison sentence. They'll just make them think they're hard or king pins. Shame. Having everyone who knows them seeing them dressed like that picking up litter ( or better still scooping up every piece of dog shit on the street or in the parks) for a year will hurt and humiliate them. Should be a huge incentive against doing it again and to deter others.  All this mamby pamby they are the victim shite needs to be banished to the bin. Time to reclaim the country so decent ordinary folk do not suffer anymore.

I hop you can get it sorted for a decent price Lee.

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

Not just unhappy today. Last Thursday the timer on the oven gives up the ghost. £140 plus 3 weeks to wait for a part. New oven delivered Friday, £600. Saturday, 18 month old laptop hard drive decides to pack in, so much data and information lost from various projects, reference letters for future employers, certificates etc all gone, new laptop £400. Sunday, the little cooper we bought as a runabout has a puncture and she is fitted with run flat tires, £000, dont know yet. Sunday night our 8 moth old Whippet pup decided it's hungry and has managed to become a high jump athlete by getting up onto a display unit, 8 month old HTC phone knacked and all my contacts and data lost, new phone required. I recon it's time to emigrate, start a new life with a new identity or just become a hobo who needs nothing in life other than an occasional feed.

Hi Bib's, spoke with a guy yesterday and he told me how to remove and see if the hard drive had stuck and how to check it, which I did, but no joy. I can send you the hard drive if you want to have a go at it.

There are also companies that specialise in retrieving the data from hard drives that have failed.

Have known drives to stick. A couple of taps with a small screwdriver usually worked. A few in maybe a couple of hundred, so not unheard of.

Get the drive onto a donor system to see if the data is there first. Might just be windows has crashed?

And remember well praying that a new set of heads would not get trashed when first starting the old hard drives with removable platters. Smoke particles will damage for sure.

Aren't most hard drives sealed in a vacum in their casing?

Nope, they are getting away with it and using Indian operators with no certification, although it's asked for. I had another yesterday which had an age limit of 55. It also said, Do not apply if over the stated age limit. Foreign registered companies so no comeback under UK law as I found when I dipped out on my redundancy etc. Even if they were a UK company, I was employed through Abu Dhabi office, redundancy does not apply. Bestards after 7 years with them.
