All valves back in, head & inlet assy all pretty clean now.  Tomorrow will probably be box off & various mountings.

 

One big issue is the chassis tube by the manifold which is bad, possibly the worst I've seen.  Gonna strip it back and assess the extent of the problem before making any decision.  So that means the head can't go back on yet.

Clutch was shot to hell, so good news that I have a new one.  Gonna clean up the box a bit, fit new slave cylinder, change output seals, replace gearbox mountings and get the flywheel skimmed.  No HG yet, so that'll have to wait.

You can see it quite well in that last pic.  Usual place.  After removing all the loose crap, turns out it's not so bad - yet.  Gonna clean it a bit more, treat it (maybe a day at the zoo), coat it with something nice.

My chassis the same although I'm a bit younger than you...

I'm going to rub it back, and give it several coats of zinc galvanising spray from screwfix, do you reckon some kind of heat shield could be fitted?

I derusted mine, painted it and wrapped some twin layer heat shield around it ( left overs from making the engine mount shields).  Mine was damaged although  probably not as much as on a turbo car.

Aha!  I see Dave is reading this thread, so I'll let him tell you what he told me!

 

 Yep as Darren said, that is the best quick fix option....

It does also depend on how bad each one has gone, some may require

a bit more prepping others a more dramatic solution.. 

Good news is I have never seen one that can not be fixed.. 

 

An Esprit owner is never happier than when he's playing with it...!   :shock:

Bugger.  Was heading for a blinder of a rebuild evening until I pulled this out of the parts box:

Damn straight.  Lost a few hours tonight, and was intending a few tomorrow too.  The fates don't want me to drive my Esprit this year!
