One of those rare cases where a picture looks better than real life. Honestly, if you saw it in the flesh you would change your mind instantly...

Well on insta you see an Evora with a "normal" int, I do not think all the mansory Body Panels (nearly half of the car) and the int. were retrofitted before selling, so different cars I guess

Thought something was amiss, paint looked far too good from what I saw of the car only a couple of months ago.

I had just been to the Instagram page and noted the lack of Mansory parts, lack of centre lock wheels and SR wheels and more and came here to post but been beaten.  Not saying it isn't a nice car though & I do like his black rear deck behind the window and the contrasting stripe everywhere on the car.  Well "blingy" but maybe a bot too much for Central Scotland.

A LEGS man and proud to declare it! Lotus Enthusiasts Group Scotland

Evora Launch Edition 2+2 in Aquamarine -gone 2010. Evora Aquamarine 2+2 - gone 2011, Evora Ardent Red 2+0 gone 2012, Evora S Ardent Red 2+2, gone 2023

Would like at home in Cumbrrland, Linlithgow and Falkirk Al. Go nice with all the blinged up Corsa's, Punto's and Fiesta's at the local retail park!

I have added the Evora GTE to the Lotus Register, thanks to Thomas (TBD) for uploading all the known content:

https://www.lotusregister.com/evora/gte

Let one of us know if you would like any details changed or content added. Once the website is stable I'll add the ability for users to take ownership and manage content for their own cars.

The detailed list of the car is still a bit LF1 focused, I'll be sorting that out shortly.

Any feedback appreciated!

Nice try :-)

Trevor.

I was quite serious Trevor. The 10 that were legally scrapped, we're not physically scrapped. They have been sold and are now being fully recommissioned - I recently saw two part way through.

I understand that they will need to be sold outside the UK though.

Where was this?

Trevor.

It was at Stratton. I think they have bought all 10. I saw two partially built on ramps with the GTE plaques and wider body work.

Interesting. I know the other Gav  has his 'track only' car which was one of the originals but not one of the 20 rebuilt. However it had the gearbox changed and although its the swindon engine, it runs on the standard lotus ecu, so does give the 400+ bhp. Also I thought they were keeping the remainder as spares! I wonder what spec they will end up being, presumably they will be left hand drive?

Bang goes the only source of stock body panels.

Does anyone do a cotton-wool wrap?

Why would Strattons buy them? They never bothered taking one first time round and we all know that the first 20 took a long time even for Lotus to re-work and sell, let alone a single UK dealer.

Hopefully more details will emerge.

I presume the panels can be bought from mansory at a rather large cost? Does seem a little odd but I suppose its all down to the price strattons paid for them. Like you said, the dealer stock ones did take a while to sell.

I don't know the full "in's and out's" of the deal done between Lotus and Stratton, but I will share what info I have been told or know to be true.

After Lotus reworked the twenty cars they were left with approx. 10 cars in various states of build. Not all of these were complete cars, some had been hacked around for various testing purposes, ie. one of them had all the boot cut out for placement of emissions test equipment, etc, etc.

Lotus did actually started to strip these cars down (as planned) for the spare parts. However, these weren't the only spare parts they had for the GTE's, they also had a fair amount of brand new panels in stock.

When they were rebuilding the factory 20, some of the bespoke panels needed they had plenty of stock of, others only just enough to re work the 20. This was so all 20 factory cars had the same overall look, same panels, same rad exit, etc, etc.

If you dig back to 2011 when the cars were originally being reviewed by topgear, et al. Some of them had the twin grill exit and std nose piece on the front clam. Some had extra fog lights in the front clam above the oil cooler intakes, some had extra brake lights in the rear clam, they were all a bit of a mich mash in terms of being the same in that respect.

As I said, the extra 10 or so cars had already started to be stripped before the last of the twenty was fully built.

When I enquired what was to happen with the red one, the answer I got back was they were going to strip it down like the others. I asked if I could buy it "as is" for track use and they agreed to do so.

This wasn't an instant decision mind, it was sent out of dept and ultimately had to be agreed by JMG. It took a week or so for them to respond back to my offer. So at this stage, their intentions (from where I was looking from), was to strip all ten cars.

From what I personally saw, there weren't 10 cars left when they agreed to sell me the red one, there were only 5 cars left. The red one I bought, the swizz beatz car, one painted in pewter, and there was one matt black/grey and one matt white one still left as complete cars.

From what I understand, stratton bought the four complete cars along with all of the remaining GTE stock, both new, and what had already been stripped off the others. Basically they bought everything that was left over, lock, stock and barrel.

When I enquired with Lotus about spare parts a couple of months ago, I had an email back saying that all future GTE spares are now being dealt with by Stratton's...

So, from what I know they have four cars that can be reworked and a shit load of body panels, some they have plenty of, others not so many. It's not without possibility they use the stock of panels they have to build another 6 cars from on std Evora chassis... I just hope they keep enough back to keep us stocked should we need some!!

Sounds similar to the Stratton Elise, they bought 10 or so IPS Elise that they then converted back to Manuals, put through SVA/IVA and then sold.

So not listed as Lotus on V5, but as Stratton Motorsport, could be the same here...

Just had a quick chat with Lotus themselves who have confirmed there is and only will be 20 road GTE's. They are not recommissioning the GTE project.

They did sell some chassis, side parts and few bits including Swindon engines to a few parties. These did not include body panels, dash, steering wheels, interior trim, the special wishbones, wheels etc.

I suppose if someone wanted to build there own by buying panels from Mansory thats up to them, sounds very expensive to me. Like some other 'similar' cars out there they will not be official Lotus built GTE's.

If anyone knows better be interesting to hear.

Update:

Thanks for the full explanation above KK...seems they do have panels at Strattons then...!

Since they were promised as a limited edition of 20 cars anything else would have been very unlikely. I think we would have gotten a class action suit together quite quickly.

Now, whatever someone else does buying parts directly off Mansory is his business. But, it won't be a GTE (not even a GT350)!

Going to be an interesting topic/debate in 20 years when someone posts a picture of one of these cars.

Won't be hard to distinguish, as only the original GTEs have a numbered plaque.
