Lotus Evora 400

What a great "verdict" statement, very positive -  and they gave 4 stars!

Verdict 4 out of 5

The Evora was always a good car that could and should have delivered more, but that’s no longer the case with this “two thirds new” Lotus Evora 400. On every level, be that in a straight line, going around corners or even just to sit in and interact with, the 400 is a huge improvement over its predecessor. It’s more expensive, yes, but in many ways it represents far better value. More of the same please Lotus, you’ve been away for far too long.

I think I also prefer the leather interior to the Alcantara - looks like a real comfortable GT

One question, with the move from Pirelli's to Michelin's, is this something I should look at for my "old" Evora NA as I am due some new tyres in around 1500 miles. Anyone used the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on an NA? Would appreciate the views from people who have swapped.

Another good review :) although maybe the reviewer should get down to Specsavers  :harhar:

The body has been restyled, with a more scoops, wings and splitters, although it’s still a long way from pretty. The interior gets yet another overhaul.....

EDIT : i've now found them on the michellin site but not blackcircles

Black circles have them for both front 225/40 ZR18 and rear 255/35 ZR19, just checked - £120.26 front and £179.40 rear.

I really think I'm sold. The Orange with black looks awesome for the money.

One USP I keep coming back to (which also puts a different slant on any comparison) is the fact that this car remains the only 4-seat mid-engined sports (verging on super-) car in the world?

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm not interested in tracking one. I'm not fussed about straight line speed. The bends are where it's at and in any given road these days where most fun can be extracted and enjoyed. I LOVE the fact that the reviews suggest the 6 second Hethel improvement over the current SR is due to, in whatever way, road holding and suspension changes and the payback of these wholesale revisions. It's in the bends and curves that I believe this new car's possible magic dust lies due still to its inherent and unique configuration... alleluia!

I hear you Hellers.

I could have written that post.

I will have a 400 at some point, I will "make do" with my NA until then

As a huge fan of the current Evora I have to say that all this is making the deals on the current Evora S and SR even more tempting. Some fantastic savings to be had for anyone like me who likes the 'old' interior and styling.

I really wish Lotus well with the new car however. It would be great to see a few more around.

I will have one too Lee at some point, hopefully that lovely orange one with the black pack!  However, right now, as good as it will be, I could not justify sinking the best part of £48k into one PLUS my current 2010 NA Evora.

Now, can someone please order an orange one, 2+0, leather not alcantara and manual. Please enjoy it for 3 years and 15k miles and when the warranty runs out give me a call

Sounds like it is sell, sell, sell on Pirelli shares then!  Buy, buy, buy on Michelin.  I've previously run those Michelins on a Boxster S and they were excellent IMO.

Good news Bibs about passing on to senior management about the letters and I guess there is no point in whinging about the Federal reflectors I guess as the body is moulded for them.  It tells you who they hope the big market is for the car though, where before they were stuck on, for over the pond.

Have to say when the time comes for the Roadster order I'm up for whatever Orange that was with black pack.  Looks stunning and like others the front is slowly growing in those colours. I may have to move away from my favourite Ardent Red although I am sure it will also be stunning when we see one.

A LEGS man and proud to declare it! Lotus Enthusiasts Group Scotland

Evora Launch Edition 2+2 in Aquamarine -gone 2010. Evora Aquamarine 2+2 - gone 2011, Evora Ardent Red 2+0 gone 2012, Evora S Ardent Red 2+2, gone 2023

If you're a muppet than I must be a clanger. It's hard to 100% correct all of the time :)

Nope, you're no muppet, an ass maybe - hahaha :)

@@@Ian / Hellers:

The BmW i8 also is a 2+2 midengined car...in a way.....the other 2+2 midengined cars have lon disappeared (Ferrari 308 GT4, Mondial, Lambo Uracco......)

But I am with you, the plus two is a huge plus in daily usability

Stu,

When you came on the forum I seem to remamber you asking about when the cars SC will drop below £30k and this it seems isn't any time soon and with the 400 being launched at a £10k premium over the outgoing model I would think this will help preserve current values rather than harm them.

Trevor.

I'll get around to it at some point.

Every other article will focus on the greasy bits output and it's delivery, the handling etc. trying to appeal to a new audience which is great in itself & I can read it all there but many of us on here, including yourself, are already sold on the concept so also focus on the areas existing owners will be interested in.

  • Ease of getting in and out.
  • Is there any more real legroom or head height in the back (I DGAF myself but others will)
  • Switch gear positioning inc. window buttons
  • Lack of instrument reflections.
  • Lack of dash reflections.
  • May have to ask but have they sussed out a proper ariel/antenna system for the car so you can actually use the radio in whatever ICE is fitted.
  • Another ask is has the AC/HVAC been improved so you can get some heat out of it other than in one position only.
  • Do the wipers still sound like a 70's escorts?  By that I mean they should work without hearing every mechanical part moving and motor whirring. As a lovely UK summer you should get a chance to use them!
  • Is it still the same instrument stalks in the same relative position to the wheel. (many of us find them just a bit far)

That - and you are a jammy bar steward and I'm jealous.  :unworthy:

  • Much better, see my article
  • As above
  • As above, now easy to get to
  • As above, all gone
  • ^
  • It now goes all the way around the screen and up and down the a-pillars, should be much better
  • Completely redone, much better.
  • Now hard to even notice
  • Same, still a long way from the wheel...

I have been keeping an eye on them for a while and the newer models do seem cheaper than when I joined. They are early 40's now as opposed to late 40's so in my budget. I'll be keeping an eye over the next 5 months and it will be interesting to see what happens.
