Cam tower leak

Gosnay's tell me they're a little behind, so still waiting for the head!  Hopefully this week.

The towers are not gasketed; they're sealed with an anaerobic sealant.  If this fails, oil will seep out from the joint between tower and head.  It becomes really noticeable when the exhaust tower seal leaks and oil drops onto the manifold.

Head is back!

I like Gosnay's - an honest-to-goodness engineering firm from the good old days, and just the right amount of friendly abuse.  Custom inserts (11mm O/D) fabricated and fitted.  All surfaces check out straight; no skimming required.  All the valves are back in; now awaiting parts so I can finish reassembly of the towers before putting it all back in and getting on with the C service.

An enormous amount of sealant was on the exhaust tower mating face, so I expect to be making multiple shim changes.

Two items of note: a) those using RTV sealant where not specified should be rounded up and shot;  b) dunno why, but I just love doing valves, always have.  Weird.

I don't know what we're looking at really (which is why its soooo much better that you are doing this than me!!!).  I love how solid the new inserts look.  But I don't like the look of the "crack" in whatever that recess is next to the furthest right valve guide bit of copper(?) pipe (last pic - or bottom in 2nd pic).  The others don't have it so it suggests to me it shouldn't be there.  Reassurance please....

Don't worry Mike, it's just a rough bit of casting. Definitely not a crack!

Some of the required bits.  For 300 quid, you expect a bigger box.  Unless you own a Lotus.  To be fair, that includes 3 tensioner bearings.

Slow progress today, thanks to RTV.  On mating faces, inside the towers, on the end plate seals, all over the sprockets and threads.  Infuriating.  Finally got it all off and installed the cams.  Hopefully head and manifold back on tomorrow.

Take the nozzle off the end of your mastic gun, that should speed things up for you.

At  first I thought you were referring to the lack of plunger and spring, but they're just at the edge of shot. So, are you saying that somebody electrically bonded from one place on a piece of act ali, to another place on that same piece of cast ali, but didn't bond across the insulating nylon bush?
