Still window shopping for now and have looked at the AMV8 and the F-Type which are around £40-45k. Both have their merits but it does occur to me that the Evora has very low levels of depreciation whereas the F-Type and AMV8 could cost me considerably more in depreciation. That's quite a factor to consider.

Agree - other cars I'd quite fancy are such a depreciation bomb in comparison such that I really wouldn't know what to replace the Evora with, shy of a newer one of course!

Have you driven either/both?

They are both quite different to an Evora. Heavy, front-engined, V8 GT cars vs a relatively light, mid-engined sports car. Also, both ‘common as muck’ vs an Evora.

Yep highly agree with this. I've driven an early AMV8V and not saying its not a nice car, it is a very nice car but its a different experience to an Evora.  If you want something smooth, agile and with feedback the AM doesn't offer that well certainly not to the level the Evora does.

It can take a while to find the correct Evora for you as there are not that many on sale.  Hang in there and the right one will eventually come round.  Make sure the dealers near you are aware of your requirements so they can call you as soon as they have something.   Often you'll get a call or email before the car is advertised on their site so you can get a look in before everyone else.

Yep, I'm aware they are different but currently we have a Z4 35i (convertible) and a 120d M-Sport (daily run around)plus a Megane R26 hoon/track car, so my car options are this:

Ditch Z4 and 120d and buy 240i convertible plus buy Evora

Keep 120d, ditch Z4, buy AMV8 or F-Type as they are also both lovely but have convertible roofs (and we can't not have a convertible)

I do like the Evora, having owned one before of course but then I've never owned an Aston or a Jaguar. I know they are quite different but the Evora will be our 'special occasion' car and I'm not sure I'd spend a lot of time really giving that some stick on the road/track.

First world problems....😁

My MY12 Evora (for sale at Lotus Silverstone) is around that money  - and that is the same as I paid for it 4 years ago. Can't get much better than that.

AMV8 can be a serious money pit, depreciation not the biggest problem, but they can be frightening to maintain. Somebody I know had a £6k MOT recently! Wiper motor wasn't working and it is virtually engine out to fix it. F-Type is a depreciation money pit - Jags depreciate to virtually nothing unlike Lotus and Aston which bottom out at a far higher value.

So for me, Evora is by far the most economic sense and even for a fun third car that is important. Big bills ruin the fun pretty quickly.

Yep, I lost £1k over 2yrs on mine. Having a car like that for such a low cost is like having your cake and eating it. just need to try a 240i convertible to see if its as quiet and comft as our 120d when you're on a long slog back home after a busy day

My experience is that the total deal will be what it’ll be. ie if they give you more trade in then they’ll charge you more on the new one.

For me it’s all about cost to change and the dealers seemed to have the same approach, ie margin on that plus margin on the other is what they want and don’t care what the distribution is.

SOR then order a new one might work well.

Blessed with the competence to be a slave to the incapable.

Currently without a Lotus, Evora 400 Hethel Edition in Racing Green with Red leather and 2010 Evora N/A in Laser Blue and 1983 Lotus Excel LC Narrow body in Ice Blue all sadly gone.

Selling an Evora privately will be a slow job and probably no better in the long run. They are fairly specialist and expensive cars. Most people want access to finance and the legal protection of buying through a dealer.

Good points. I'll lower my expectations re trade in price for the ease and hassle free approach. Would have stayed with current car as it's fab but like the cosy feel of 3 year warranty.

Does anyone know if the dealers give good values when part exchanging an Evora against another newer Evora, or is it just best to sell yourselves?

I can only speak from my own experience.  Last April i traded in my 2010 NA for a new Evora 410 Sport.  The dealer offered me a great deal, a good discount on the 410 Sport (they had had it in stock but unregistered for a while) and they offered me just £500 less than I paid for my 2010 NA some 3 years before (I had taken the mileage from 15k to 25k).

As @Colin P says it will depend on a number of factors.  If the new car is in stock, and not a special or new order at the factory then I am sure you will get a good deal. Now is also potentially a good time as many dealers will be looking to close their financial year end at the end of March. How quickly can you move?

I'd also recommend taking some of the deal on Finance. The dealer gets a kick back and you have much stronger come back if things possibly do go wrong. You can always pay it off early, say 6 months in at little extra real cost to you.

Good luck and give Aimee at Silverstone a ring!

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

Welcome to TLF, Paul. :welcome:

This car comes up repeatedly because it has been for sale for a long time. For good reason.

Go back to page 81 of this thread to get a ‘flavour’ of the situation, particularly regarding the seller.

It is worth new/prospective owners really reading this thread to prevent the same things coming up and also to get a real feel for what you need to look for. Good luck with your search.

Thanks Bravo...(&C8RKH)

Rather hilariously I'd started reading on the page after that because I'd assumed you guys were talking about cars that would no longer be available.

Really helpful advice on there from people that have been to see it and love the fact people using their gut instinct and feel for a car/ seller

May go and look at the two white ones for sale unless anyone has gut instinct feel having visited those two
