As far as I know the N/A has an old school distributor so it may help a bit if it were one, but it's an SE so it's just the hall sensor and the electronic ignition plate behind the coils and then as you said there is the electronic injections, plus the fuel pump, and so on... So, good luck, really. Or maybe he plugged another generic ECU and has tuned it just to test the engine ... I would say it's pretty unlikely.

I may be late to the party for suggestions but maybe with espritmon you can check if it's running lean or rich just before it stalls? (lean=fuel starvation, rich=air starvation?) -

Have you checked the fuel pressure while the engine is idling? I would be curious to see if the pressure is absolutely still, also how fast it reacts when revving the engine from idle, etc (to compare to a used one like mine) -

Apparently the Toyo Proxes Sport exists in the Non USA S4s/V8 sizes: https://www.toyotires.fr/tire/pattern/proxes-sport But it seems it's not that easily available in the right size on the usual websites.

Very nice! Also beware of the general purpose cleaner, I have seen some carpet strangely discoloured on a used bit I once bought for the Elan. Maybe it was not related to a cleaner at all, but ...?
