I seem to have missed the hypothesis that the CV has been brought by space aliens (I called out space to differentiate between those simply from other countries), sorely it must have been doing the rounds by now.

The problem is and I just Had this conversation with the MIL!

me: you need to self isolate, like now

her: but I don’t have a cough

me: I know that’s good but you need to isolate to keep the NHS running this is not about you

her: I feel fine

me: did you watch the news?

her: yes but I feel fine, can you get me some cash as I am going to the hairdressers tomorrow

me: you’re not listening

and that is what we up against, they know better, she is 90 years old with health problems

Give her an extra £20 and tell her to go to the pub on the way back!

My mothers best friend is 79. For 55 years or so she smoked 20 fags a day. At 74, the doctors said she needed to give up as it would kill her. For three years afters she looked like shit. She had a yanking cough. Was repeatedly ill.  At 78 she told them to fook off, went back to smoking and she hasn't coughed for 12 months and has more energy than ever. Go figure. Some of these oldsters are resilient little fookers!  :)

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

However bad the virus is, panic is doing even more harm. A major concern now is the deaths that might result from vulnerable non-infected people who won't get medical help from an over-loaded NHS.

Very disappointed that the media are doing nothing but reassure and instead increasing the paranoia and fear. BBC led with 'first man to die in wales' today. Not that there has been a fall in new cases. They also showed a video of a fight in a supermarket in Australia all promoting the narrative that society is on the brink of collapse. It turns out the fight wasn't actually anything to do with what's going on. Nothing about the great things communities are doing to help look out for each other.

And don't get me started on Piers Morgan

hindsight: the science that is never wrong

They’re so fecking annoying, she will not self isolate, absolutely not a chance!! I do get this, it is not about you but the NHS and I have a lot of time for the NHS as they saved my life but would they be able to do that if these annoying old people ignore the advice !!

Mine, conversely, is entirely compliant and will believe anything I tell her.  I've just informed her that the virus won't survive a good bleach gargle.

Yes shit does happen, having had to watch someone die in front of me whilst on an life support system. I sincerely hope you have not had to / don’t have to go through the same. There will be families that do. Shit happens.

Colleague in work had to go home today. His 9 year old god daughter died, on a life machine, after a long fight with leukaemia. Truly tragic.

Yup shit happens every day to all sorts of people. So please people, do us all a favour and stop panicking. Stop spreading hysteria. And if you are really worried, or considerate, then just stay at home in isolation with your family and stop worrying about stuff you cannot control.

There will be some people who die of a stroke / heart attack from the stress and worry of catching this bloody virus. Really. There will!

You are very lucky.

My 88yr old mother went out out to a restaurant yesterday with her 9yr old great granddaughter, taken by my brother and sister in law. My mother also complained when I said I wasn't taking her to a garden centre today. She knows about the advice, and hasn't left the house much (other than medical appointments) in the last couple of months.

My mother was complaining isolation is going to ruin her Mothers Day. I said if you don't self isolate you may well not see another Mothers Day. She seems to have got the message .... for now

My MIL returned yesterday from a 3 week trip to Italy, France and Spain + a 2 week cruise through the med. Re-entered the country (Australia) to a compulsory 2 week isolation.

We've been updating her on all the problems that she would face getting back into the country, She doesn't listen or care.  She caught a 90 minute packed train back home and says she's not sick, so doesn't see any reason why she can't leave the house to see friends and go shopping.  My wife has given up and won't talk to her - beyond reasoning.

These numbers I’m sure will be skewed massively by folks with colds. How many of these are genuine lab proven cases and not diagnosed over the phone cases?

A movie to self-isolate with. If you've been self medicating enough you'll start believing this is the cure happening real time.  😲

Morrisons this morning to pick up grub for lunch - plenty of bog roll - only 2 packs per person.

folks comparing the best method of buying to maximise sheet acquisition. Couldn’t help but point out you can buy as many copies of the Sun as you want from the front counter everyday

Well the Map says that its confirmed Cases. Hence 45K tested in the UK but only 1,543 Confirmed cases as shown on the Map.

So based upon that - all are genuine cases; and not people with mere colds.

We have now made a logistics center to sort out any eventual incoming problems with lack of medical supplies between any hospital in the country.

The ec now talking about "green lanes" aka trucks only, to to avoid ques and help supplies of anything needed. Hmm... I think there are plenty of free lanes these days. Anyway, only 3 weeks late with the suggestion from the ec, so that works ;)

Regarding the mil that some of us experience as super stubborn. Very annoying, but I think that somethimes the world may look different in their view. One thing they may not want, is to sit home and waiting to become ill and possibly pass away from that discease. I think they'd rather live on, with joy and experience of life itself, being that a travel around the planet, or going to the hairdresser.

So said my grandmother when whe was 98 y.o. She lived full on, never ill, apart from when she survived cancer 40 years earlier, a world war, countless terror attacks, oil crisis and what not, until one morning she got out of bed (super early as always), and informed us that now she was tired of life and want to sleep, said goodbye and thanks for everything, made sure that we, her grandchildren were managing well in life, looked out of the window with a view to green fields and forest in the background, laid down, smiled and silently slept and passed away. The elderly people have their own way of seeing life. Who am I do decide?

Best wishes for everyone.

Kind regards,

jacques

My father is 82 and high risk as he has underlying health issues namely lung issues. His wife has a friend in hospital and visits her twice a day every day.

The hospital has said not to come in unless essential, they have cancelled non essential appointments and advised people not to visit.

Dads Mrs has told him she is going in no matter what as her friend is "lonely and bored".

It's about time the Govt stopped "Advising" and started backing this up with action. Close the Hospitals to visitors. Close pubs etc. This wishy washy rubbish about "People should avoid going into restaurants" is not helping.

Several young people I know (maybe family members) have flatly refused to consider self isolating if Wendy or I am ill as they will lose their jobs. They are on zero hour contracts and have been told if they take 2 weeks off work they will be replaced.

Possibly save your life. Check out this website. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/mens-cancer
