NA STAGE 1 MAP

Recommended Posts

Hi

i've just had map on our battered diesel saab run-around to remove a few things lets say :)

i spoke to the guy and he looked up the lotus and there is a stage 1 map available for it, it came up with the same
ECU as the "S", the "S" remap gave an extra 40bhp IIRC but the NA was close to that also. Im used to turbo cars
(not owned a NA in 20 years) so im surprised anything could be done Map wise without duct taping a turbo under it ha ha

anyone had a map on an evora? i assume it would just alter the air/fuel mix maybe.

I’m not sure the early LE ones were encrypted. That said - a buddy of mine does flash remapping from these bulk mapper folks and as much as they showed it’s available and could do it - the kit simply would never communicate with the Evora.

Only here once

I thought i would ask, to see if anyone had done it.

surprised most cars aren't encrypted, unless the map removes it etc

only met the guy today, i might ask to see if it can communicate

he seems to have a lot of gear and said map companies do different things, i can't remember which
box of tricks he said was better to use. ive read on the forums that ppl have messed with setting though etc?

are they running (quoting F&F) "stand alone fuel management systems" :)

All of the earlier cars were unencrypted. Lotus only started encrypting the ECU code in about 2013 or 2014, IIRC.

So, if your car has been serviced by a Lotus dealer since that period, the code will be encrypted. If it hasn’t been, chances are that the ECU will be more easily accessible.

The few Evora tuners that are out there offer around ~300bhp for their stage 1 which includes induction and exhaust modifications too.

So +40 bhp form just a remap on a NA engine sounds very optimistic.

I did think a map on a NA giving 40bhp was a little high, i have a plack style straight pipe on the rear anyway, would
love to remove the pre-cats as well, but thats alot of money i could spend in other areas of the car. I personally think
just removing the massive weight of the exhaust helps (i believe around 35kg). very interested in an induction kit, do
k&n panel filters help alot? or is it again shelling out for a crazy priced BOE intake from the states. alot of the mods for
the evora seem very highly priced, i can only assume its because of the low volume there selling. i had my exhaust made
for me in st/st for £240 iirc, that is a 1/4 of the price i see ppl paying.

It's almost certainly going to be possible to unencrypt the ECU. The question is, has anyone invested the time effort and expertise to do so on a car that is not going to have many people rushing to your door to chip it for 10 bhp or so.

Unlikely IMO

I think 40 bhp from just a remap seems unlikely ..

Hanger 111 offer 'around 300bhp' from the NA but it involves quite a bit more than just a remap, for 24 bhp increase and a bit more torque...  and £3,750 ...

Yup but you basically have a straight through pipe so probably a quarter of the total material or work, surely.

The only really tried and tested route for the NA is as per Hangar 111 kit:

1. Replace factory filter with K&N - some gain

2. Remove 3rd cat (in exhaust if it is there - it was removed by Lotus on I think, 2012 MY cars on

3. Add a CAI - strong gains OR

3. Replace headers and pre-cats with new headers and a single "sport cat - 200 CEL" - strong gains

For each of the steps (whether done singularly or in parallel) above, after making the changes run the car easy for 300-400 miles. This allows the ECU to "learn" the changes and it will self-adjust to optimise.

Do 1, 2 and 3 and you will be touching 300-310bhp with an engine that is much more responsive to the throttle.  The route I did on my NA, which was very successful, was K&N, then 2bular headers with sports cat.  Totally transformed the noise and the responsiveness of the car.

Feel free to use a "modder" to play with the ECU, at your own peril.  Massive difference between playing with an ECU used in around 2500 cars in 11 years, than playing with an ECU used in 2500 cars built an hour :)  Not sure how much a new Evora ECU is or the availability. But I do recall you can add a second/aftermarket ECU to get access to the engine maps. I think it was ES Motorsports who pioneered this.

Yeah., looking at the package they offer I would need a st/st manifold making (that's where the money is) and a £40 K & N panel filter. Which I will get anyway. I do like the BOE intake and cones but there is alot of work to blank it off from the engine bay heat. Prefer to spend on cosmetics LOL. sa looking through what they do basically I would need a man hole straight through which is where the money is saying that the Aluminum for the barge boards has just arrived.
