I`m not sure why you are trying to calculate the freq.  I have fitted many sets of the Gates blue belts and always shoot for higher-up in the Lotus specified freq. range

- new belt tension 120 - 135Hz

I didn`t realise that you needed to calibrate your chosen machine prior to being able to measure frequency..

.... but frequency is ... frequency - vibration, wavelength?

A vibrating object moves back and forth from its normal stationary position. A complete cycle of vibration occurs when the object moves from one extreme position to the other extreme and back again. The number of cycles that a vibrating object completes in one second is called frequency.

Yeah, but why do I need to specify the object in order to measure the vibration?

Good morning, update belts are on and everything is back together.Have gone for several drives now and she feels great.Although i have noticed now, when i accelerate in first gear, and press the clutch in,sometimes it doesnt want to get out of first.I thought it might be low on clutch fluid but its full,so im thinking i might need to look at the linkage, because every other gear is fine.

I think the issue here is you, Mike, always use the same belt so its length/mass/span etc is irrelevant- its always the same so you already know you need a frequency of X to result in your chosen tension Y.

Anthony is using a machine that can use all sorts of different sized belts, and his belt may not be the same as yours, so he needs to calculate what frequency he needs to get the tension he is after-and that seems to depend on various measurements of the belt including mass and width.

If he's using the identical belts to you, he can use the identical frequency range.

I could be wrong of course!

The sole reason for inputting the mass, width and span of the belt is to enable the device to convert the frequency it has measured into Newtons. This means you can set the belt tension to the manufacturer specified tension value regardless of whether they give it in Hertz or Newtons.

Derek is right. the machine measures frequency, whatever values you put in the device won't change the frequency. You pluck the belt and it vibrates, the only thing that can change how it vibrates is the belt tensioner. Apples are apples , Lotus are specifying a frequency so just measure that. If lotus specified some other units like Newtons and you then use a frequency meter to measure the tension you will need to do a conversion using some other metrics.

If you need to enter this info to get the device  to start measurement you can put in whatever you like the frequency will be the same.

But do the Gates blue apples omit the same frequency as the much lighter and less substantial oem black apples when plucked ?

If we compare lighter cambelts to  guitar strings for instance. Asking for a friend 🫣

I always aim for the upper range for a new belt.  You should be absolutely fine with that.

Steve, what really does affect frequency is alcohol. After several whiskeys my guitar playing sounds awesome!!
